Why I won't use Netscape

Question

Yeah yeah, only a couple posts, I know; I never read the boards. Anyway, back in the n00b days, I remember seeing that Netscape 6 was released. I d/led it to see if it was any good, and (not surprisingly) it wasn't: pictures were all over the place, text was misaligned, and all HTML was basically screwed up. When I noticed 6.1 or 6.01 or whatever, I thought that I might give that a try. The bugs were still there. Now that they've skipped versions to 7.0 (which all companies do) with basically a Mozilla 1.0 with Netscape's name on it, I'm not interested in trying it out. IE works fine for me. Plus, I don't really want to spend all that 56k bandwidth on it.

You got to be kidding. All IE versions before IE 6 were absolutely useless. IE 5.5 was close to being usable.

I used Netscape till the first alpha or beta releases of IE 6 came out, and never went back to Netscape, other than to try out some Mozilla and Netscape 6 releases, which I didn't like cuz they were to much like IE, lol. I only have IE 6 installed and only use it cuz it matches the rest of Windows XP, other than that, it's still pretty much crap, but at least it's almost as fast as Netscape.

Indeed it does. Stable, fast, tabs, fast search, skins, small ...

Well you all keep using IE because it came with the OS or because "I don't want to try out other stuff" or whatever...

LOL :D :D

I find Mozilla to be an excellent browser.

I was under the impression that it was Netscape 6 not 7 that was the first to be based on Mozilla source.

Duh :right: that's because IE loads with the OS. You can change the splash screen and you can change the icons.

And when you get a decent system Moz loads just as fast as IE does. IE sucks big time.

Like I said; IE pre-loads with the OS. That's the Microsoft advantage. I have a Athlon XP 1800 and I don't notice any difference in load time.

Mozilla has many things IE does not have. Take direct search. Select a word or term on a webpage, right click on it and you can do a websearch on the selected term without going first to your search page.

It's high time Microsoft updates it's browser.

BTW I am not a Microsoft hater. I love Windows XP

I think I'm sticking with XP's IE6. Too much of a hassle to try something different. Then there's the issue of your bookmarks/favorties.. blah blah..

the only problem with mozilla that i have is that i only want one browser when i use tabs, but sometimes a new browser still opens. i'm pretty sure i have all the settings right. has this been addressed? for now, i use netcaptor. IE also doesn't have a builtin popup blocker.
