AMD overclocked?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone. I have a bit of a problem. I have an AMD Athlon processor which is set at 900MHZ, but the temp seems to fluxuate a lot. When I leave it off all night and turn it on in the morning, the temp is usually around 32 degrees Celcius, but after a while, it climbs up to 65. Somtimes it's even higher. Also, the computer seems to lock up quite frequently. Now, it would seem that the processor is over clocked, but I had baught this from a retail store. Could it be that it's over clocked? Thanks in advance :)

maybe your heatsink isnt making good contact with the cpu. so you might want to try to reapply that. also you may want to just get a new heatsink and fan, becuase that may always help. odds are that its not overclocked, you would most likely know if it was. oh another thing you may want to increase case air flow ie a fan to draw air out of the case so you arent just reusing hot air. check your ambient temp as well. and it most likely locks cuase its gets so hot. yea over 65 is pretty bad so try to not let it do that.

although i really think that the heatsink just isnt sitting on there right. or may be warped or something about that so look into that.

yeah, it sounds like you are having cooling problem, try removing the heatsink and see how your thermal compound is doing (greese or those pad things). It could be drying up. Also clean the dust out of the case and heatsink.

Your cpu is bound to be hotter when it's in use, and cooler when it's not, However a temperature of 65c is too high for that cpu. Tell us what heatsink/fan combo you have and make sure that:

The fan is spinning

The heatsink is making contact with the cpu

You have some type of thermal compund on it

Also touch the heatsink and see how hot it is, it's possible that the temperature is reading wrong.

Also you can take out the cpu and check to see what speed it is.

Thanks guys :D I'm going to try and get some thermal compound and a better heatsink/fan combo and see if that helps :p

Yeah, when I touch the heatsink/fan combo, it's really hot to the touch. I'm going to take it all apart and see what speed it is. Could be overclocked. You never know :p
