DeAd-EyE Posted October 1, 2005 Share Posted October 1, 2005 Ok, these two both seem to have a whole lot of features that...well mean nothing to me because i'm not upto date onthe new Dolby and THX technologies. Please enlighten me. (note: these arn't so much for video as they are for audio mainly, but if i plug a video source into this before routting it to the tv, will i loose much signal quality?) basically i want something that won't become obsolete in the next 2-3 years. bangbang023 Veteran Posted October 1, 2005 Veteran Share Posted October 1, 2005 Well, while the Yamaha is only 6ohms of continuous power and the Sony is 8, the Yamaha looks to have better audio dacs and a much lower THD. It's a really tough choice and I'm not sure which one I would go with certainly. I have a personal preference against Sony receivers, though the 597 isn't that bad. However, that said, if I had to choose right now, I'd probably go with the Yamaha. The Sony is actually a model from last year and has been replaced with a poorer 598.
