kjordan2001
Looks like I'll need a new cpu fan. I have an XP 1800+, any recommendations? I've been looking at the Volcano 7's, but I don't know what the big difference is between the 7 and the 7+ except the pricetag and the rpms and cfms. Lexcyn
I had the same problem, and all I had to do was to replace the thermal tape and the fan/heatsink combo. :D

NEO_UK
seems very hot to me.Is it overclocked ? maybe best to try and give your case better air flow. I use Artic Silver 3 Thermal compound. its only a 5er per tube.suppose to be the best stuff.
karmakillernz
Mine sits at around 35 - 45 when idle and shoots up to 60-65 when used fully (Gaming/ripping mp3s etc). Is that normal? That is reading from MBM5 from the sensor on the die itself (apparently :) ) Oh, and this is an AthlonXP 2000+ not overclocked.
tomwarren Veteran Posted July 16, 2002 Veteran Share Posted July 16, 2002 60C is NOT good, get some delta fans although they found like u got a mini factory in ya PC they do some good :D

daoutlawz
i say buy away, but i got the same processor, and when i idle its at 48c and when i run intensive gaming its at ~56c, so unless u test the temp after u runnning a game for a while, then u should b ok, btw i have a standard hsf. badall
if your in the uk try maplins they have got loads of new cooling stuff from bog standard fan+heatsinks right up too water cooling they also have a kit were you get most of the stuff you need for case cooling (thinking of getting this for mine before gat watercooling next year) by thermaltake comes with a couple crystal orbs(chipset or vga), cpu cooler, active ram sinks & case fan or fans can't rember exactly about 40 quid

hobsgrg
60 degrees is warm but its still within the safe limits, it might shorten the lifespan of the CPU slightly but the fact is it will be in a scrapheap long before it it dies, until a couple of years ago my school was still using 186 pc's, i didnt even know they exisited until i had to use them, it will probably keep running happily for a good 10 or 20 years or maybe even far longer than that, you'll be replacing it far sooner than that
badall
70 quid for the kit but another 70 for the radiator but you can get a better cheaper radiator from a link on overclockers.co.uk i think maplins website is http://www.maplin.co.uk/

NEO_UK
Best combination i found was to use a Alpha PAL8045 heat sink with a 80mm Delta :D Chop 1 or two holes in ya case. (I put one over Cpu and Graphics n a second over lower half of Graphics card and over PCI cards. Good reason to use heatsinks like the Alpha is that it screws onto your motherboard.(thou depends on some mobos where the screw holes are) otherwise you could squeeze all the compound off your core using normal heatsinks that hook onto your cpu holder. Btw what Motherboard do you have ?
Chris123NT
I reccomend the Swiftech MCX-462 with an 80CFM Delta. I have one and the thing is sweet! Keeps my cpu nice and cool :)
kjordan2001
Can the average cpu molding handle a 120mm fan? I'm thinking about getting a Y.S. Tech 110cfm fan and an adapter and then a heatsink for my cpu fan. That should keep it nice and cool :p I just don't want to hear a clang as the cpu hits the bottom of the case though. I'm thinking that or this: this nice side fan... http://www.nexfan.com/43/377.htm?180 and this for the cpu heatsink... http://www.nexfan.com/29/288.htm?180 with the delta 50.15cfm fan for my fan. Either one should keep me nice and cool.
NEO_UK
I still thinks its far to warm for whatever. me and my mate has a 2100+ at 39 fine with nothing tooo extreme.and my mate has a 1600+ clocked to 2100+ and thats not even at 40 under Pressure.buy some Artic Silver.its only a ?5er YS-Techs are good.Deltas chop Fingers;)) Btw.mod ur case too. its the future......:
