"In their continuing war against the spirit of the internet - and all things free, AOL have once again tried to block trillian from their servers.
The last time, AOL implemented a change which could detect if it was an official client by the small discrepencies in the protocol. Now, it seems, Cerulean Studios have perfected the protocol so the false client is undetectable.
However, now AOL have managed to find and exploit a bug in trillian's contact list support. They've changed the way the contact list is sent.. not by much, so the real AIM client still works... but trillian cacks itself and promptly crashes.
It only seems to affect some people - I *think* it only affects people with contacts which have spaces. I.e "Red Lemon" as opposed to "RedLemon". I'm not sure about this.
While we all eagerly await an update for trillian, a simple fix is to deactivate AIM (simply delete the AIM.ini file from your trillian directory).
I'm wondering which vile tactics AOL will use next. I am curious about the legality of this most recent move, as it actually crashes the entire client - and does not just prevent the client from using AIM. "
Edit: (From trillian forums) If it makes you feel any better, Scott just said : "We're working on it".
Just thought I'd post this so everyone who uses Trillian (hopefully a lot of you do) will be aware of this.
