+Dick Montage Subscriber² Posted October 3, 2005 Subscriber² Share Posted October 3, 2005 I use neither at the moment. My VHS died a few months back, and I see little use in replacing it (it still plays just won't record). I am building a media centre PC with the aim of using it to video my shows. If that doesn't work out, I'll buy a DVD recorder with hard drive.
mAcOdIn Veteran Posted October 3, 2005 Veteran Share Posted October 3, 2005 Well I personally love DVD's as a medium, but I work in the rental business and in my opinion DVD's are hell in that sector. About the only thing that would **** up a tape was a bad VCR, child, or leaving it in the car, but DVD's come back all jacked up because people don't protect them. As a rental product DVD sucks, after 5 people rent a DVD it has a high chance of being ****ed up in places. Of course it wouldn't be a problem if people weren't stupid and didn't twist them around on steel wool pads or whatever they're doing to **** them up. +Dick Montage Subscriber² Posted October 3, 2005 Subscriber² Share Posted October 3, 2005 I treat rental DVD's as I treat my own DVD - touch edges, don't bend, etc. What do people do? Do they just not rewind them before returnin? ;)
Max Veteran Posted October 3, 2005 Veteran Share Posted October 3, 2005 I use both. DVDs I use to record stuff downstairs and I still have 150+ videos on my shelf upstairs. Thats gonna be a bugger to replace :pinch:

leesmithg
I have both, however I only rent DvD's. I can get 6 per month for a tenner and 10% off any DvD I buy, which is better as I can't get the same with a VHS cassette.. I did watch a video on my PC last night called 'Craft' the night before watched a DvD called 'Bound' the thing I prefer about VCR is you rewind quickly to watch a scene or a specific point a lot quicker than on DvD. In the perfect world the DvD player/recorder would be top, though VCR's still have their place. VHS tapes if used correctly will last longer than a DvD, I say this as I have been reading recently that most DvD disks and even CD-Rom disks degenerate quicker the more they're played and the cheaper they are. So I use both, untill the DvD can be treated like a VHS cassette I will stick to both.
Xerxes
Both, while I everything I buy now is DVD I still have VHS tapes lying about so now and then I will watch them still

scofo76
I still have my VCR, but it hasn't even been switched on since i got Sky+, and it's DVD's all the way for movies. I really should bin that VCR...
masterren
I like both. I use DVDs for movies, but I don't want to pay for TiVo or those DVD recorders. VHS is simple and cheap for quickly recording a TV show. I also have old videos on VHS that I like to watch sometimes.
Orange
I think by 2006-2007 people will leave VHS for ever and move onto DVD's. Seeing as DVD'S are becoming cheaper by the minute.

WHY? Because if they are DVDs you can EASILY see who is damaging the movies and who is not, then if they come bad you can give them warning next time they rent movies or charge them for damages. People were constantly bringing back VHS because they were damaged. I tryed to put them into database and find out who was damaging them but it's extremely difficult since there is no easy way to see the state of the tape. Echilon
VHS videos are like floppies. There's no real use for them, but occasionally you'll get an episode of futurama you've missed, and if you didn't have a VCR, you'd be screwed.
Doli
VHS videos are like floppies. DVD or VHS to record TV? DVD or VHS watching movies (DVD wins)? Edited October 3, 2005 by dolimite35
