Internet Problem!!! HELP PLEASE!!!

Recommended Posts

ok ok, i need some serious help guys!!

my specs are:

Gigabyte 7VRXP Mobo

256MB 2700 DDR RAM

Gforce 4 MX 440

40gig Seagate HDD

SB Vibra

WINXP PRO

here i go.........

for all who dont know, this mobo has LAN onboard and Sound onboard, now... i disabled the sound and plugged in my PCI sound card and it works great..

I did the same for the LAN card, i.e. disabled it in BIOS and plugged in the Ethernet LAN card in the PCI slot, and IT DOESNT WORK!!

ive tried all that i know of, first of all i did a few combos, i re-enabled the on-board LAN chip, to c if it did anything, nothing, i re-installed winxp, nothing. Then i swapped the Ethernet card with another one, to eliminate the possibility of a faulty Ethernet Card, still nothing. I moved the ethernet card to different PCI slots, nothing.

Then i just unplugged the cable, and shoved it into the on-board one, and it works fine.. even with the Ethernet one in the PCI slot..i again unplugged it and put it back into the one in the PCI slot, and nothing..

btw i have updated all drivers, including VIA. and nothing. i am writing this to you connected thru the on-board LAN CHIP!!

Try having them both enabled at same time but only the PCI one configured properly

i have tried to do that, and am using the internet in that way at the moment (i.e the cable is plugged into my on-board LAN, while the LAN card is in my PCI slot), and it still doesnt work...

and yes windows does recognise the card, my SB card works fine, the LAN card just doesnt work, so in other words, the drivers and everything is there, it just doesnt connect to the internet. and ive also put the CARD in different slots, and it still doesnt work. ive even tried different cards.

what's so wrong with the onboard LAN? unless there's a specific need for the pci card, i'd say to stick with the way that works...

it lags me out in online games, and also makes it choke, thats basically the only reason..

with my PCI card, i never had this problem..

Oh! I know what it is! My isp does the same thing. Whenever you switch ethernet cards, it will want to reassign your ip address, ie, give you a new IP. Just power down your system, reset the cable modem, then hook up the cable to that pci ethernet card, power back up the system.

Mine does the exact same thing. I was freaking out about it, until I reset the modem and noticed I had a different IP after switching cards.
