Just received a pink ribbon from a coworker for pledging a few bucks to her for the "Run For The Cure" breast cancer fundraiser.

Point is, I won't wear the ribbon because I really don't have any strong feelings toward helping out that cause; I sorta just gave her the cash cause I would have spent it recklessly doing youthful stuff like drinking and video games.

I was just thinking about this at work, especially since I'm working with a lot of older folks who are on committees and have kids in school and their friends are dying and stuff - I'm not sure if I feel comfortable handing out gifts to every charity that someone asks me to.

So I've created this long winded poll to gather some scientific data. Personally I would chose option 4 because that best suits my actions.

Ideally I would be choosing option 2 but I just don't feel that way about anything yet.

Please answer truthfully based on your real life actions, not your beliefs. Because sometimes we don't always follow our beliefs.

Enjoy.

Clarifications:

1. This question is supposed to relate to a co-worker or friend who asks you to pledge some amount for them on the "Run for the Cure" etc. but I could also see how it can be interpreted as a request from a homeless man, a busker (although this is not the intent)

2. A family member, friend, self has been afflicted by a malady or situation. You would never wish it on anyone else and hope that your donation helps in the future.

3. Warm fuzzys when you give an amount to a charitable fund, or just a general feeling of "well, I've done my good deed for the day"

4. You don't like saying no because you're a bad person if you do - or you just feel guilted into it - or you don't really mind, don't really dislike.

5. Donating is good because you can use it as a tax relief write-off, and it helps out other people at the same time, so might as well

6. You would rather volunteer or help out with actions or purchased donations (teddies, blankets, etc) instead of money

7. You're one who has needed to call upon donations at one time, or you have a very strict budget with little or no room for donations because you have to support yourself/your family

8. Just because everyone else donates doesn't mean you have to. You don't believe in the cause and you'd prefer to use your money elsewhere in the economy or on a different charitable cause.

9. You feel uncomfortable with so many different groups asking for your change that you are frustrated with people asking you. Also, you would like to see the exact items you helped with your donation, but you never get that closure.

10. Don't care/What's everyone else putting/More than one of the choices suit my actions

As for myself, I'm a cancer survivor of sorts: I have malignant melanoma and have had several melanomas removed (thankfully on unexposed parts of my wrinkly-old body), due to the fact that I was a forever-tan youngster growing-up in California and ended-up with a sunburn that was bad enough that I had 2nd & nearly-3rd degree burns on my back with blisters the size of silver dollars - and I've been free from any more melanomas for over 4 years. My mother-in-law survived breast cancer, so I firmly believing in "giving for the cause".

Along with that, I tithe 10% of my income to my Church to help the poor and needy, and I've seen it bring happiness and light to what would be another persons desparation.

With that said, I firmly believe in giving to those less fortunate and helping where I can. When the last two Hurricanes devastated the Gulf Coach I felt a burning desire to head down there to help in the relief efforts, but due to my current physical condition (degenerative disc disease & fibromyalgia) my body just won't work like it used to.

So, people - Give wherever and whenever you can. Go to the Red Cross and donate a pint of blood...help-out in a homeless shelter...do whatever you can to help your fellow human being - It WILL come back to you!
