Japanese developers leaving PS3 development

Even though the PS1 had a ton of third party support, you would think that developers outside Japan would switch to a different console if they thought the PS2 was so diffcult to work with, but they didn't.  Companies like EA, Ubisoft, Rockstar, continued to develop their multiplatform games with the PS2 in mind.  So it is sort of a lame excuse that people say about the PS3 that developers won't develop for it because it is too hard to work with.  They worked with the difficulties PS2, I am sure developers will do the same with the PS3.

Sure. But it may lead to longer development cycles and more expensive games compared to the 360 and Revolution.

You can't compare it like that, games were developed with PS2 in mind because it was the slowest and graphically more limited than any other system in the last generation (If you exclude Dreamcast that is) Over 60% of games created for PS2 did not take full advantage of the hardware because of how difficult it was to program for it, now with the PS3 it's even more difficult. What numbers do you expect to see that time around?

Probably the same percentage again. The only people who really utilized the PS2 were Japanese developers (Square-Enix, Konami, SECA, Polyphonic, etc.) because the dev kit was in their native language. There is no reason why the same Japanese developers wouldn't be able to utilize the PS3 and have the same percentage that use the full power again. Edited by jmole

The date has no significance, I tend to trust GameSpot more then I do some random Japanese site interpreted by a fan run site.  Until I see it posted on by a credible source I don't believe it.

What I find the most amusing in this thread are the people who keep saying "I hope xxxx company fails and burns!!!11111~~" What kind of idiot wants LESS competition? I'd say that it's almost certain Nintendo wouldn't have designed the Revolution the way it is if Nintendo were still the leader in the console market.

Heehee!

I like the PS3 and all, but the prospect of developers ditching Sony for MS makes the inner Xbox fanboy in me squeal in delight.
