I used to donate often, but there was a false positive one time and now they won't take my blood anymore. Basically, I'm not allowed to give because of a disease I don't have. Kind of sucks.

I've never had any problems with it, really. One time I almost fainted, but it's because I started getting really nervous when they were having problems getting the needle into my girlfriend's (now ex) arm. I think I got so worried about her that my heart started beating a bit rapidly and I turned white as a ghost and started to tip over.

Gave blood for the first time a few weeks ago, I cant stand people who say "im affraid of needels" Because when there on a hospital bed needing a blood transfusion they aint going to be so affraid then.

I did once. Now I'm starting to donate plasma. Helps me out as far as money while I'm in college too, which is a bonus.

edit: I'm not fond of needles either, but I'll get over it

Uh hello, there is a difference between voluntarily giving blood and being in a hospital's care and 'needing' blood drawn or needing an IV. There have been cases of people REFUSING medical care because it involved needles and they have such a traumatic reaction to them.

There are people who have died because of needlephobia ( there is a specific word for it ), they go into cardiac arrest.

I had to have surgery two years back and had to have blood drawn and an IV inserted. I purchased a tube of full-strength topical anesthetic for $40 and anesthetized both of my arms because I didn't know where they were going to stick the needle. It's that bad for some people.

And, for crying out loud, you are from England, learn to spell. It's needles not needels and it's afraid not affraid and it's "They're or They are" not there.

I'm not usually a grammar nazi but you rubbed me the wrong way with your comment about not being able to stand people who cannot stand needles.

Yeah I donate. They say that for every time you donate you save about 3 lives. It's not like I need that blood for anything at the moment, so why not help out others who do.

I don't have a problem with needles what so ever. I watch them stick it in, no matter what kind of needle. :) I haven't donated blood as of yet. I probally should since I am O+. One thing I have to find out if I can give blood. My mom had Yellow Johndus "sp?" when I was born. Which in turn gave it to me at the same time. My mom was told that she nor I couldn't give blood because of it. Now, don't hold me to this statement, I don't know how accurate it is.

If I am able to I will donate eventually. :)

I have aspirations tp give blood, but maybe not for a few years. It is probably lacking in quality at the moment due to my rather unhealthy lifestyle, which is unlikely to change any time soon.

No.  I know this sounds wrong but, People die for a reason.  If we keep saving people the world is just going to get even more over populated.

We are not immortal! And if the world becomes over populated, war and famine will fix it.

Well, some people are just being 'wusses' about it because they don't like pain. However, some people are genuinely phobic and it isn't their fault.

I would give blood every chance I get...BUT...

The two times I've tried, I have passed-out cold (always do with problems involving blood). Needles don't bother me in the least (had a HUGE IV once, with no problems at all). I would MUCH rather have a shot and (near) immediate relief from something than have to take pills for a month.

The worst thing is that when I passed out, then they woke me up, they told me they couldn't use my blood.

What a waste.

Only reason I don't give blood is because I am needle phobic. I find needles honestly terrifying and I needed to have an IV once when I was very sick and even though they said I could die without the IV I pleaded not to have it and instead had to drink the most vile tasting crap I have ever tasted in my entire life, like chalk powder with water or something it was god awful.

I am Needle Phobic not a wuss.
