I did donate about 3 times (and would've continued to donate every few months) except that on the 3rd time, one of the zillion tests for diseases in the blood tested positive in my blood. They even took that same batch of my blood and tested it for that exact same disease or whatever it was and the never tested positive again, they only tested positive once. I called them up and they said it was like 99% probability that it was just a fluke but because of the government's policies, they can not take my blood anymore.

I was really ****ed off because I actually go out and do something to try to help people and now I can't because (probably) one of the testers contaminated my blood so when they tested it that one time, it tested positive. They said that once somebody develops a more accurate test for whatever they supposedly tested positive for in my blood (but just once), they will test my blood again and it if is okay I can donate blood again.

I'm just generally annoyed about the whole thing.

I've donated 12 times. I try to donate every three months (which is the max you can donate). It took three goes (9 months) before i donated first. Twice veins in both arms collapsed and another time was because i had a cold. I also had to give up for a year because i got a piercing. And next march I'll have to give up for 6 months beacuse I'll have been to India :( I always feel good after a donation. Its hard to explain if it's pyschological or a physical feeling. Everyone should try once to give blood if they can.

No. But I used to. It's to much of a pain to go to the location, get screened, then donate, takes about 2 hours.

I also used to donate Plasma, which they actually pay you for. I used to donate at work when the Red Cross Mobile Blood Bank came by once a year, but thats because I would also get a half a day off when we did donate.

I know how you feel. As I said a few posts back, I'm in the same boat.

No way would I donate. Unless someone I knews life depended it on it and they couldn't find someone else.

I have a needle phobia. And I mean a realy bad phobia. When I had to get surgeory, they took a blood test and they said they said at the hospital they never saw anyone react like me to needles. My boddy shakes uncontrollably like I'm having a seizure or something. They had to give me pills to "mellow me out" so they could stick the needle in me.

Strange... seeing as how I've got a very high tolerance to pain. I've had my hand slashed by accident at work once and muscle was dangling out nd you could see the bone and that didn't hurt at all really. Had 10 stiches in the back of my head once and I that was ok... they didn't even numb the area cause I didn't want the needle and that was ok too.

But a little thing like a needle, I'm terrified.

My sister and I are not allowed to donate because our Great Uncle died from Creutzfeldt-Jacob Disease. It's basically the human form of mad cow disease. It's an absolutely horrible way to go.

He obtained it from eating "Tiger Meat" (raw mutton). Even though it's not hereditary in our fmaily, that's the one disease they don't take chances with.

Used to donate every 8 weeks when I was in the Army. Along with at least half a dozen other guys. At $10 a pop, didn't take to many people donating to work up enough cash for a heck of a party!! Had to drink plenty of fluids, you know!! ;)

No. It's my blood produced by my body solely for my use, not someone else's. I agree with Liquid. If someone else so much need my blood, they'd have to pay for it. My blood is like a part of me and I will not risk losing it.
