cropcircles
XP Logon screens from Neptune to Beta 2 (2) didn't change much after Windows XP build 2428 (Whistler) but other features changed allot. That will probably be the case with Vista. Some things will change allot and other features won't at all. http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windo...evolution_4.asp
John S. Veteran Posted October 7, 2005 Veteran Share Posted October 7, 2005 What difference does it make what the final look is? You'll all be skinning it with Windowblinds or the latest hack to re-theme it a month after it's final anyway.
spclffred
LOL watch ppl the aero glass theme now will be the classic theme on the final release of VISTA.
Brandon Live Veteran Posted October 7, 2005 Veteran Share Posted October 7, 2005 I was just talking to someone internally about this. And they confirmed this, even Beta 2 won't be the final UI. RC and RTM will really be what the final is like:)) 586633615 Perhaps. But a lot of the UI basics will be in place by beta 2. I don't expect as big of a change as Whistler had from Watercolor to Luna. I expect a lot of little changes, and maybe some different color choices. But those are pretty much my guesses, not anything I know internally since I don't work on any shell/UI stuff.
Kr0z
This best describes how I feel about the Vista Colors. Colours. I?ve seen some shots of Vista explorer with an orange gradient, bright green progress bars, glossly blue buttons, transparent titlebars with black/grayish borders. W?T?H?? I try to tell myself that this is all placeholder stuff and the final GUI will no doubt look far more cohesive, but then again I said that when I saw the first shots of Luna as well. AltecXP
Classic = Cool Whistler = SWEET! Luna = after about 4years im still not big on it Vista = pure ugly IMO I wonder what a Vista-like verson of Whistler would look like?

pepo
I think the glass looks badass. MS has been talking about how Beta 1 is nowhere close to the final, and Beta 2 will be pretty close but still not deliver the full package.
Izlude
Mac uses light bright colors making them all wonderous... (gag!!!!) Windows uses this dark color scheme = M$ is a dark company... MWAHAHAHAHA! I like the dark scheme. dark = good!
Malisk
lol. its nowhere near done. You should have seen how windows XP looked before it was released. 586633384 We're not even at Beta 2 yet... Development has a long way to go. Does anyone remember what Whistler Beta 1 looked like? Take a look: Why do people keep pushing these arguments? Windows 95 beta 1 looked pretty much like the final Windows 95, with few Windows 3.1 influences: http://toastytech.com/guis/chicago.html So that's simply no good argument, and certainly nothing that should be taken as a confirmation beta 1 we saw is far from the final looks. You just risk becoming let down for the RTM. Yes, it could improve, but it's nothing given thanks to some sort of Microsoft practice with betas and UI's. Besides, it could be argued whether Luna is an improvement over Watercolor.

leXorNet
While reading the Windows Chicago page i noticed this Font manager/folder. Is this possible in XP? Looks sweet and its 10 years old. LOL
Kupo-Cheer
People... if you've learned anything from Windows betas, it should be that the beta/alpha builds normally look nothing like the final product... not to say that how it looks now is really all that bad in the first place. It will get better and more refined, and I would be much more worrried about how the new features of Vista are shaping up...
ev0|
Yeah, caring only how it "looks" is a novice's mistake. Much more interesting to me are the other things they're changing in the OS.
hjimmy
I seriously think M$ should hire some artist and design people from Japan... no offense... but Japanese do design a lot of things better... especially their sense of color Vista interface... wel, yes it might look fantastic at the beginning, but it is just like Luna in XP, in which you will get tired of it very quickly. The GUI interface is what we need to face all the time, that degree of fancy ... well... I just can't stand it after a while I am using Classic now (even classic improves a lot from chicago to whistler), and even the classic 2000 (but 2k3 color scheme) logon. Looks much more professional, and much neater than Luna.
darkmark327
What the hell difference does it make...first of all, your definition of "ugly" may not be the same as everyone elses; second, it's not the final UI; and third, did the "ugliness" of XP matter since you can change the visual style?
munashii
Vista looks good.. plus... The colours can't please everyone.... I'm sure some people dont like the colours of xp... 586633530 I love the colors of XP.... With the classic visual style, of course. (too strong and not very objective in my opinion, because we know M$ does work hard right? ) just like what I said in my post ... it's too fancy to get tired of easily (either the color/gui... or combined)
riahc3
I hope they make it look nicer. As it is, it's much nicer than XP's Luna Theme! I'll be happy if microsoft include a Minimal theme with vista too. :) 586633639 Yeah it has a "classic" Windows 2000 style theme in the beta at least. pied_piper
For all the people saying ?looks? is not everything, I know I get it? FYI, I work with computers all day long and I care very much about what will be in ?Vista? other than how it looks? But this is the topic I chose to discuss. ? Vista looks ugly, and this is no where near what a future looking OS system should look like.

Vista looks ugly, and this is no where near what a future looking OS system should look like. 586637460 Then tell us what the Hek it should look like then . Vista is what the next genration system looks like the Advancments from XP to what we see nwo is abig step a complete overhaul on the Os i mean if you want windows 2k look then stick with 2k dont upgrade no oen is forceing you to get Vista and use enjoy your new graphics card for more then just games . the technolagies witch MS has spent over 5 years creating is paying off big time. all the 3d advanced sub systems MS has built and put in to this system works very simuler how your HL2 or Farcry with HDR handles shader code from your GeForce 7 card or so now we cna finaly take advantage of the ome of the power of are graphics cards but as of now and evan in finale when we see or evan beta2 we see what ther doign and created not just for how the system will look but see how it will use the loosk as aprt of the entire system navagatiijng the system to just about everything. Remeber with windows 9x system and evan today with windows XP and sutch soemtimes your sytem locks up or appears to lock up and the screen may go black and when it recovers it slowly brigs your desktop in and the black wipes away liek windows 9x did when the system siad to Busy and sutch or how abut whena program stops responding and ya drag anotehr window over the program and you get a tile effect of multiple windows going across the screen or so. With Vista this will not be a problem because of the new Look and how the new system works under the hood you wont have that issues so . The Looks is more then just Looks it is also Functinality and Stabilty
