MonkeyClaw Veteran Posted October 8, 2005 Veteran Share Posted October 8, 2005 it is designed but for some reason they still havent gotten it right. look windows needs to be revolutionized not disguised. the gui is nifty, the glass is impressive but in the end its still windows and its still not as simple and user friendly as an os for the masses should be. the glass is nice, i will admit that. but when used on a daily basis, it will become distracting and annoying. a subtle glass implementation would be nice, this is just in your face glass. beta 2 better tone it down or vista will be a disaster. classic will end up being the most popular after a while... BigGiantHead
If you don't like it, big deal. I'm sure you will be able to skin it according to your tastes after it's released. You can't please all the people all the time.

Not only are there entirely new communications and graphics subsystems, but the overall windows core has been heavily modified and re-written. Vista doesn't seem stunning right now because it's in BETA. The release is still OVER A YEAR AWAY. Have some optimism, man.
geedeepee
Then tell us what the Hek it should look like then . Vista is what the next genration system looks like the Advancments from XP to what we see nwo is abig step a complete overhaul on the Os i mean if you want windows 2k look then stick with 2k dont upgrade no oen is forceing you to get Vista and use enjoy your new graphics card for more then just games . the technolagies witch MS has spent over 5 years creating is paying off big time. all the 3d advanced sub systems MS has built and put in to this system works very simuler how your HL2 or Farcry with HDR handles shader code from your GeForce 7 card or so now we cna finaly take advantage of the ome of the power of are graphics cards but as of now and evan in finale when we see or evan beta2 we see what ther doign and created not just for how the system will look but see how it will use the loosk as aprt of the entire system navagatiijng the system to just about everything. Remeber with windows 9x system and evan today with windows XP and sutch soemtimes your sytem locks up or appears to lock up and the screen may go black and when it recovers it slowly brigs your desktop in and the black wipes away liek windows 9x did when the system siad to Busy and sutch or how abut whena program stops responding and ya drag anotehr window over the program and you get a tile effect of multiple windows going across the screen or so. With Vista this will not be a problem because of the new Look and how the new system works under the hood you wont have that issues so . The Looks is more then just Looks it is also Functinality and Stabilty 586637906 it was exhausting to even read all of that. you should consider using full stops and punctuation to properly form your sentences. RvXtm
All of this things are true, but i like vista...i realy do...and not only for the graphics, for the performance people. It can be nice as possible if it works like s***...so i think M$ is doing the best to combine the aspect and performance into a new version called "Vista". Personaly i hate how it sounds "Vista" ... Maybe M$ will change the name of the OS too ... who knows. I finaly got "Windows Vista 5219 Pre-beta 2" up and running and i'm still testing it...anyway,nice job.
The J Man
What's wrong with current look? I like it.Even though i think they still have something up their sleeve :p 586633391 some of us are waiting for something surprising.. but, leaks after leaks, the surprises are being taken away... Hopefully, MS will come out with something noone would expect when Vista RTM.

The J Man
yeah i think ugly is not a good word...(too strong and not very objective in my opinion, because we know M$ does work hard right? ) just like what I said in my post ... it's too fancy to get tired of easily (either the color/gui... or combined) 586637275 hopefully M$ will come out with more surprising features and UI
Ramble
People, it's not what UI Microsoft design, heck, Luna is ugly. It's what the various modders will do with Aero, thats what i'm really excited about.
metro
My outtake on the UI is this... For those who are tech savvy, like the bells and whistles, and the customization then it may not appeal to you. There will be features implemented that will allow you to enable and take advantadge of this. According to released info about Aero, there is tons that can be done with it that are attractive and streamlined. You should be able to have a badass looking theme with lots of different capabilities based on the features that Aero boasts. For those who are not tech savvy, i.e. the average idiot computer user... These people may or may not have any form of advanced knowledge of computers. Why should Microsoft throw in the bells and whistles on a default theme on a fresh install if the system may not be able to handle it or if the consumer is confused by it and doesn't know how to turn it off? There are a lot more people that just use Luna and leave it at that, except for maybe changing between blue, silver, or olive. These are the people that just want it to work, and don't care how it works. They are not concerned with how pretty it is, to a certain extent. The problem is that you cannot satisfy everyone. The ability to make Vista look badass lies within Aero. Micrsoft have to find that perfect balance between it's broad user base and cater to that to make the install and experience out of the box as flawless and enjoyable as possible. Some people will be disappointed, some will be speechless. Honestly, with what Aero will be able to do I don't really care what the default UI and theme will look like because I always change it anyway. I want Vista to be stable and secure before I want it to look like Candyland.
ev0|
The glass windows are basically what you're going to get with the final, for example, the general look, although there will be additional effects and slight tweaking. But all the purple, garish blue stuff that's in there now - the toolbars, the start taskbar, anything with the "placeholder" elements, including probably all the icons, will be replaced with something much nicer looking. It's just that MS doesn't want everyone to go copy the look almost a full year before the OS is available, so they're holding back. But we should see it by Beta 2.
