the point was that Maidens best years are long gone - they're a parody of what they used to be, Metal is a young-mans game  :p

I know I have a thread somewhere about that, but again, if someone wants to see the shots from their charity show @ Hammersmith, I posted them here.

P.S> Oblomov, you are just jealous because girls didn't want to sleep with you back in the 80's 'cuz you couldn't afford them latex pants that were in fashion then

They're not bad but In Flames is 10x better in my opinion, although "any other metal band" doesn't really fit the choice I would take either.

I'm not really a metalhead btw.

Voted Other.

There are many forms of metal and Slayer rules them all, Kerry King would stab Bruce with his own rapier and then eat him raw.

Though, Devil Driver featuring Dez Fafara formerly of Coal Chamber is a Kickass band too.

Dude, Kerry King is a guitarist, Bruce is a singer - time to know the differences. You can't compare things like that.

Kerry King is so much more than a guitarist. He is THE man behind Slayer. He's the man period. I wasn't really comparing kerry to bruce anyway. I just wanted to throw in bruce's fencing as a lark. Kerry King would actually eat all of Maiden. :)

Yeah, and Steve Harris is THE man behind Iron Maiden. He would eat Kerry King and wouldn't even burp after that!

OK cut the crap, let's not be like bitching kids after all...

I think metal is pretty immature music. I mean, I listened to it when I was younger, but as you get older and you mature yourself, your interest in songs about the number of the beast, albums about seventh sons, and other related "story" ideas with hard guitars and plodding drums wanes.

At least, I think that it should. After all there is a lot of other good music out there that doesn't require such childishness anyway.

Wait, are you actually saying that "hard guitars" or "plodding drums" or even concept albums are inherently childish?

Even then, there does seem to be an Iron Maiden trend among the young population, at least where I live. Half the kids seem to be digging Maiden all of sudden. I don't think they come close to being the greatest or most influensial band, even among the Heavy Metal genre. And there are plenty of better bands if you look deeper underground. Their first albums are pretty good though.

Question. Is Primus considered metal? I have a friend from back home that listened to Metallica, GNR, etc. and also listened to Primus.

Wikipedia link

Primus is a rock band formed in California in the mid-1980's. Les Claypool (vocals and bass guitar) has been the only constant member.

Their music has proven difficult to define; Primus has been called everything from "thrash funk" to "alternative rock" to "the Freak Brothers set to music." Les Claypool himself once described their music as "psychedelic polka" and a "chicken robot."

Nothing personal or anything against Iron Maiden, but they are far from the best metal band. The topic of this thread doesn't say anything about who's best or anything, so it's to easy to ass-u-me anything.

I'll take Accept, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath/Ozzy, and Led Zeppelin over Maiden anyday though.

In fact, I can think of many other bands I'd pick over Maiden for alot of things.
