Half of the people on this forum have no idea what they are talking about. If you would at lease be a real musician you would probably understand why Iron Maiden if one of the most influencial and best bands alive today.Fine you want to compare band?As i can see alot of people in this forum says that metallica is better? well first ill tell you from a professional point of view,Iron maiden has the better talent.First of kirk hammet vs dave murray? well you would probably think that kirk hammet is better but that aint true. everything that dave murray does is harder to do.Nicko mcbain? well hes a very good drummer, maybe not as good as before considering that hes older than the rest of the band.Adrian smith? haha wow hes great. To have stamina in your picking like he does... you dont see that every day.and finally the legendary metal bassist Steve harris! Just put yourself in the context. He play 3 notes with 2 fingers.. and the speed that he plays is allucinating espacialy for his gallop trademark.

In conclusion I say that who ever says that iron maiden sucks is a complete looser who dosent know anything about music. So before saying stupid stuff,go make abit more research on the band.

Hahaha....I first started listening to Maiden about 20 years ago. Steve Harris owns all metal bassists like the above poster noted.

Metallica haven't done anything worthy IMO in over 15 years, but I can see why people like it. I'm more into Indie, Electronic, and Folk nowadays, but I'll always have a soft spot for Maiden, Priest, Cooper, and others.

Iron Maiden kind of suck.

As far as older metal goes, both Black Sabbath and Motorhead are much better.

I'd have to disagree.

-Iron Maiden prettymuch single-handedly created the bar by which other metal acts were to be judged by for quite a while.

-Their musicianship stands the test of time. Stuff they did 20 years ago competes with stuff coming out today, and if you made the production more modern you could easily have someone convinced they're a new band.

-They really re-invigorated the metal scene. Their unique style filled with things such as galloping rhythms and harmonizing guitars paved the way for many things that are now clich? in the genre.

-Their lyrics, while sometimes weren't eceptional, are often very vivid and inspiring. Also there are a notable amount of literary references in their works as well as references to real life scenarios. Dune, Rhyme Of The Ancient Mariner, The battle of Paschendale, The story of Icarus etc. Their lyrics are worlds beyond what many metal bands put out and are far more profound and meaningful, despite how fun gore lyrics can be.

-After countless older metal bands put out crappy albums in the 90's, take a good look at Maiden's more recent offerings. Their newest studio album, Dance Of Death, not only holds true to their style while showing musical progression, but it beats the pants out of modern albums other metal bands are putting out, such as Metallica.

I could go on. Maiden has never been my favorite band of all time and usually aren't even up in my top 5, but they've always been one of my most respected bands ever. As much as I dig Sabbath, I think Maiden deserves a lot more credit than Geezer, Ozzy and company do.

Well then, from a "professional point of view", Iron Maiden is complete crap compared to bands like Liquid Tentsion Experiment. John Petrucci owns Dave Murray's guitar playing skills in every way imagineable, and if you take guitarists from other genres, Yngwie Malmsteen and Joe Satriani could easily beat them both hands down. As you put it, sound has nothing to do with the better band, it's entirely skill. Looking at drums, Mike Portnoy is one of the best drummers out there. He has mastered the drum kit along with other drummers such as Neal Peart. Sure Neal doesn't play metal, but in your comparrison, sound hardly matters.

So what if I say that I prefer a band like Children of Bodom over Iron Maiden? Who cares who has the more talented players? All that matters is who has the sound you prefer. Influence has nothing to do with it, I don't care if Children of Bodom wouldn't exist if it weren't for Iron Maiden or whatever, that's like saying that the Commodore 64 is the best computer because modern machines wouldn't exist weren't for it making computing as popular as it did.

Well, there is a difference between preferring a bands style to another's and thinking that band is more skilled and talented at what they do. I could see someone feeling the former about CoB, but I wouldn't say CoB is more skilled than Maiden, not at all.
