Which Notebook?

Recommended Posts

I have been waiting to get a notebook for about 2 years now and I keep holding myself back, well I finally need it for school so I want to buy a toshiba after looking at all the other ones. My problem is that I can't figure out what I want or if I should wait another month or not. Heres the 2 I have been looking at.

First one is Satellite 1955-S801

Comes with: P4 2.2ghz, 512 pc2100 ram, 16" SXGA screen, Geforce 4 440 Go with 32megs ddr, dvd/cdrw, 40 gig hd, network card, modem, keyboard and mouse can detach and become wireless. Also its $2500

Second one is Satellite 5105-S701

Comes with: P4 1.8ghz, 512 pc2100 ram, 15" UXGA screen, Geforce 4 440 Go with 64megs ddr, dvd/cdrw, 60 gig hd, network card, modem, Yamaha Sound System featuring harman/kardon? Stereo Speakers with subwoofer, cPad? transparent touchpad, full function remote control. Its $2680

So I don't know if I should go with either of those or wait a month till the 2nd one is upto 2.2 ghz or whatever.

Personnally i would go with the Satellite 5105-S701 because of the better video. I mean sure the CPU isnt as good as the other one, but that one if fast enough it will do anything you could possibly want it to.

oh yea, and trust me, those UXGA screens all the ultimate in LCD's. I have one on my laptop, and the difference is amazing when put side to side with any other type of laptop lcd.

Yeah, that screen and gfx card are twice as good, you will notice more of a differance with that one, then 400mhz more, trust me :)

With the first one, you are limited to 1024x768 screen res (that may be fine for you)

I also would rather have the 60gb hard drive :)

If you do wait a few months, you will probably get the best of both :)

Do you even remember about BATTERY LIFE?

listen up....

i have a brand new dell inspiron 8200

P4 1.6GHz 256 DDR 20GB 15.1 UXGA(1600X1200) 64MBGeforce 4 440g0

off of 2 Batterys, simutaniously 66Wh (hi capacity) i get 6 hours.

also, remember about SpeedStep. on battery that system will run @ 1.2GHz i think, maybe its higher for that speed. not sure but this is how mine works 1.6/1.2GHz

and when did intel even release the 2.2 Mobile Chip?

i know they released the 2GHz.

Hrm from what ive heard for you guys and talking to friends I think my best route is to wait a few weeks and get a 2.0ghz or 2.2 in the 5105-701 because if I get the 1.8 and next week a 2.0 comes out I will be kicking myself in the ass. Since the 2.0 and 2.2 just came out too I am sure they will be upgrading it into the other models soon. As for the weight 7.2 pounds isnt too bad and im not worried about that at all and as for battery life I have taken this into consideration after all the reviews of them only getting a hr and 15 mins to 2hrs time but in most classes and stuff ill be using it in ill be able to plug it in and when I can't I want to buy atleast 1 extra battery prolly 2 though for 4hr lectures. So I guess ill wait till the end of the month then buy it that way im not regreting it later on down the line.

xStainDx they came out with the 2.0 and 2.2 end of last month and I think theres a 2.4 out also.
