Undelete Email?

Question

I'm not sure if this is a violation of the TOS but I suppose if my post is removed, my question is answered.....lol.

Anyway, I'm offering a $50 reward for anyone who can steer me to a program that will undelete emails. Let me be more specific. I'm looking for a program that will undelete them so that they are readable!!!! I dl'd a couple of programs but the majority of what I got was gibberish and I don't want to have to sort through the mess. I'm not sure if a program like this even exists but if it does, I'm willing to pay you for finding it for me. I also want the ability to narrow my search by entering key words so that I don't have to sort through unwanted stuff. Furthermore, if the program is beyond the scope of my understanding, I would ask that you walk me through the process via ICQ or similar program.

BTW.....I know you don't know me from Adam but I am a man of my word. If you steer me to the program, I'll drop a cashier's check in the mail the next day.

Why did I pick the Neowin forums? Frankly, because I'm in awe of the amount of knowledge that passes through these forums and I figure if a Neowinian can't answer it, there is no answer!

I'm at my computer regularly and will be checking for responses in an hour or so.

Thanks in advance.

The program I tried out showed deleted Hotmail email messages and OE messages. Unfortunately, much of the message was a mess (hex?) and I had to sort through so much stuff just to get to a few lines of what I wanted.

This is a tough one, they are all stored in a single file.

If you have recieved new emails, then it will have been deleted...

lol, that hex is probably another file edging in on the space that the message took up

My understanding (correct me if I'm wrong) is that each email is an individual file. When the files are deleted, they are still on the computer until they are overwritten. The task at hand is to resurrect the deleted (but not overwritten) files.

it depends where the file was placed on the hard disk...

if the emails are stored in indivdual files, then you could try a program such as norton undelete (comes with norton utilities, built into the recycle bin)...

Gismo, does the Norton undelete program allow the user to undelete files via search words? In other words, if I only want to undelete messages sent to or received from John Q. Public, can I enter that in my query and only undelete those messages?

i'm not sure...

you could try this:

right click on deleted items.dbx (search your hd for it, probably in the outlook dir or in your personal documents and settings folder), choose open with, and choose word pad..

choose 'find' in the program to search through the file, search for John Q. Public or so, you may be able to read the message from there..

if that doesn't work try this: (found on the internet)

1. From Start Menu, select Find and then Files or Folders.

2.Type deleted items.dbx (the 'Look In' location should be C: and checked the 'Include Subfolders' box )

3. When the program have finished searching, left click deleted items.dbx and save it to a diskette.

4. Do not close the the 'Files or Folders' program yet. Now delete deleted items.dbx (not the one in the diskette)

within the 'Files or Folders' program.

5. Open Outlook Express and then close it.

6. Now place the deleted items.dbx (the one in the diskette) to the directory where deleted items.dbx was originally

located.

7. A message will pop up prompting you to replace the exisiting file. Click Yes.

8. Open Outlook Express and go to Deleted Items. You should be able to recover deleted emails.

From what I've heard so far, it appears that the actions were done on the hotmail site, not with any external program. I'm going to try and help recover temp inet files with the account used in hope of recovering the text
