Help with network card on XP

Recommended Posts

I have a realtek network card for Excite@Home connection, in my network card connection i can see there are 4 options,

1. Base5

2. Base10

3. Half Duplex (Default)

4. Full Duplux

can someone please explain what they mean and which one I should have for a FAST download ( dont care about upload)

I can tell you that full duplex is better for me when I am gaming over a network.

If this network card is within 3 or 4 years old, it is probably at least 10baseT which i belive means 10 megs per second. So don't worry about your network card slowing down your internet too much, you should be more worried about the modem or type of ISP (Dial-up, DSL, Cable, T1, etc.) connected to the network that you are using.

What do you have available?

If you want a faster network set it to full duplex and 100base if it supports it. If it does not support 100base then 10 will do ok.

As long as you are not doing something hardcore like playing Unreal Tournement or Quake III over the network, whatever it is right now should be fine for downloading. Unless it is really F'd up.

Lmfao, why do you keep doing this? This thread is eight months old. Leave dead threads in peace.
