Well, if you can get into linux there should be a command to reinstall grub / lilo to the MBR. You could probably use a live cd even to do this. I forget the command, but a quick google should tell you.

After you delete the partitian you have Vista on then boot back into XP and go into System Properties>Startup and recovery>Settings>Edit. If your running XP as your only OS then your boot.ini should look like this.

[boot loader]

timeout=30

default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS

[operating systems]

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

I had to do this for 5219. Reboot and right to XP desktop. With 5231 this might not work. If so you'll have to boot into recovery from your XP CD use the following to rewrite your boot.ini

FIXMBR (This will rewrite your master boot record so you can boot into XP)

BOOTCFG /REBUILD (This option will let you name your OS)

I have something similar:

Have XP on hda, Vista on hdb.

After installing Vista I have this "vista bootloader": You can choose:

* Windows Vista

* Pre Legacy (what was before vista)

|

--> * Win XP PRO

* Vista

I want to delete this Vista loader and stay only with the option to choose

* Win XP PRO

*Vista

It's like having double dual boot... :blink:

Any ideas?
