Upgrades were broken in build 5222. That's why you need a support OS (2000/XP/2003/Vista b1) or a newer version of Vista to do a build-over-build install.

They announced to us beta testers when 5219 became available that we wouldn't be able to upgrade that build to beta 2 when it became available. Sorry but you would of known this if you had read the information beforehand. You'll have to do a clean install of 5231.

No. Upgrades from 5219 are not supported for technical reasons. Not because they don't want you to.

Don't upgrade betas, trust me. I have experience trying to do this from the whistler days. Just fresh install each one, each and everytime.

In fact I would go so far as to say it is in your best interest to never upgrade... you'll get more functionality and better performing system if you fresh install.

Betas are always buggy. So basically your trying to upgrade one buggy release with another, using a probably buggy upgrade install.

Besides, since your not using Vista as a primary OS, you shouldn't have that many programs associated with it anyways :D

Why in heavens name would someone really want to upgrade from beta to beta, interim to interim for that matter, which are not even of beta quality. People, please understand that this is not a supported scenario on any build going forward until beta 2.

The only upgrade scenarios that will be allowed or considered normal are upgrades from Windows 2000 Professional SP4 or Windows XP SP2 to Windows Vista BETA 2 just for testing real world scenarios.

You can't upgrade from 5219 to 5231, if that 5231 Build is the leaked "5231.winmain.050912" :ninja:

Wait till the real October CTP is released. Get it and try it out. It SHOULD upgrade your 5219...

No is should not upgrade. MS is not support upgrades from Vista at this time, feature will not be available until later.

Take it from real beta testers, either live with the pain of clean installs or the agony of upgrades.
