also interesting is:

Photoshop:

Ctrl+W closes the currently open document

Ctrl+Q quits the app

(those are inherited from the mac version, prolly)

Windows Explorer & Internet Explorer 6.0:

Ctrl+W closes the window

Ctrl+W also closes the currently open document in Word ;)

funny how Microsoft inherits some shortcuts from Mac apps :p

no i'm not bashing anyone :p

i'm just saying, that in the mac, there's no Alt+F4 :p what does OS X uses? Command+W and Command+Q (which is basically Ctrl+W and Ctrl+Q) :) just that.

i found it funny, because i used OS X for a while, then when i went back to using windows, i'd find myself closing documents with Ctrl+W and some windows with Ctrl+Q :p

Umm, Ctrl+W closes the active window in most MDI apps, like Word/Excel/Photoshop/etc.

It's also used by most tabbed browsers (Maxthon, Firefox, IE6 w/ MSN Toolbar). So I wasn't really surprised that IE7 uses the same.

Hmm, ctrl+F4 seems to work in maxthon (guess it makes sense, as ctrl+tab will do "next tab"). I wouldn't be surprised if it worked in IE as well.
