Vista Build 5231 UNBAREABLY slow!

Recommended Posts

So why exactly are you running a leaked version of 5231?

What technology are you developing for on Vista that you can't develop for on XP?  Avalon?  Indigo?  .NET 2?  All of those are available on XP.

I would like to hear an answer from him on this question too.

In which case it should be 5231.winmain_idx02.051004-2010 and not 5231.winmain.050912-2020.

You got that right.

5231.winmain.050912-2020 is the pirated version out there. SO DO NOT USE THAT. And if your friend works for Microsoft, I don't see a reason why he aint got patience to wait for the October CTP?

"05(y) 09(m) 12(d)" <--- look at this... Do you see "October" anywhere?

HA! Aaha ha ha ahem... not funny.

to all of those that are being totally uncooperative here, i have something for you.... i think you know what it is.... oh? What this? oh... its....

:spam::spam::spam::spam::spam::spam::spam::spam::spam:

now, with that said... grow up.

the thing you need to realize about it being beta is that they are still doing code optimization and there is next to no driver support. if you wish to develop applications for vista, id advise you too get ahold of avalon and just use your XP box to do it... there's nothing more frustrating than working on something in a beta environment. I'd stick to this method until at least beta 2.

If you're hell bent on using this copy of vista, then id say do a clean install since it worked before you fiddled with things. if you are going to be doing development work then you just need a base install anyway... who cares about the special effects?

and if you're not going to help then don't post because when someone who has a legitimate copy of vista comes into this thread with a similar problem then they need to weed through the **** to get to what they need, and thats a solution, which you people in this neowin community can provide.

oh and batbeef73 - I'm not singling you out here, everyone that is posting stuff like that is being rediculous and not helping. its this same sort of crap that makes me hate asking for help here. everyone wants the post count +1, but no one wants to help.

I have made a serious increase in speed. I did this by using the Microsoft driver for my graphics card, which I discovered was already on Vista. Now, I have glass and all the nice effects like Flip3D. Thankyou everyone for your help!

this is so stupid... does anyone bother to read what I say? if you have nothing positive to contribute, then don't post. the dude asked for help, and the nice thing about asking in a place like this is that if someone else is having a similar problem in the future then they can look at this thread for a resolution. instead everyone's gotta be self righteous babies and be like "oh noes... it was pirated... im not helping him." and so what? what if someone who didnt pirate it has the same problem comes in here looking for a solution to the problem? he wont find it because it's cluttered with the childish and senseless banter of a bunch of immature, stuck up nerds. grow up and get a life.

like i said... everyone wants the post count +1, but no one wants to help...

I'm sorry but I think it's bull**** that all these goodie goodie beta testers are acting as if they've never shared their legal beta versions of Vista or any other software with friends when I guarantee that MOST of them have gladly made copies for friends.

He asked for help with Vista. He didn't request any cracks or any kind of cd-keys or anything like that for it. He asked a simple question and some people want to rip into him and that wasn't right at all IMO.

Unless I'm mistaken isn't the ID Chris123NT the person who leaked 5231??? I'm pretty sure I've read that somewhere.

Also...there was a thread not long ago asking people if they're running legal or pirated copies of XP. I remember a good chunk of the people were running pirated copies and post regularly here on Neowin.

But as for the topic. I agree with the others saying to reinstall Vista to get it working again

everyone wants the post count +1, but no one wants to help...

Including you

The same could go for you and that post

People aren't necessarily taking the moral high ground here when refusing to help on the basis that this is a pirated version of Vista. What's relevant here is that because this is pirated, it may contain bugs/problems which are a RESULT of it being pirated and/or a version not intended for release (even to beta testers). For example, pirates sometime whack their own code into a release (malicious or otherwise). And aside from that, a leaked internal beta may contain bugs which cannot be worked around because the build was never meant to see the light of day in the first place. I know that it doesn't apply to this specific problem, but I still stand by what I've said.

Also, there's no logic in using a leaked Windows Vista beta as a developing platform when all the relevant frameworks are available for XP, as threedaysdwn previously stated.
