Windows Media Player 9

Right... it was cool for a little bit, now I want it gone. Yes, it is a beta, but it's not cool enough to put up with the ****. Can I install MP8 over it or uninstall it?

You have to delete the windows media folder, then reinstall windowsmedia 8 from your xp cd if you are on xp.

Otherwsie there is no other download for wmp8 for xp users.

Just installing wmp7 off the site dont work because the install will detect XP and abort the install.

With some beta software once you apply it your stuck with it till final releases :p

anyone who decides to play with the play speed i noticed you could go slow and fast but not back to normal. i even stopped the track and played again this didn't work. what does bring the track back to normal is pressing ctrl+p on the keyboard. also you may have noticed that full screen seems to be disabled. unless you change the view to metadata and then right click in that window choose fullscreen. whatever visualization you had on last will fill the screen again. if nothing shows then change the view to your preferred viz and then repeat first steps.

also im still not sure how to get the album info for downloaded files but if you put them on to a cd you can download the album info just not the cover. go to copy from cd choose edit track info and then on the bottom choose search. it's pretty self explanory from there.

Video playback happens using overlays. An overlay is a rectangular space filled with a certain color. The video data gets sent to the graphics card to draw it at the specified position where the certain color is (for window overlap). When you do a screenshot, you see the overlay color, which is a very dark gray usually, nothing more.

--edit--

If you're looking the screenshot and that overlay area is near where the video plays (WMP being in background and/or minimized, you'll be seeing it, overlay positions get only updated on window move)

I was looking at the WMP Help and I found this:

Using DVDs

You can use Windows Media Player to watch DVDs on, and copy DVD video to, your computer. Like a conventional DVD player, the Player enables you to skip to specific titles and chapters, play sequences in slow motion, access special features, and switch audio and caption languages. In addition to these conventional DVD player tasks, you can also download information about each disc from the Internet.

This section covers:

Playing a DVD

Changing DVD viewing options

Viewing information about a DVD

Copying a DVD

Note To play or copy DVDs, you must have Windows XP, a DVD-ROM drive, and a software or hardware DVD decoder installed on your computer. If you do not have Windows XP and a compatible DVD decoder installed, DVD-related commands, options, and controls do not appear in the Player and you cannot play or copy DVDs. For more information about DVD decoders, see the DVD Troubleshooter.

So, DVD copying is a real feature in future versions. This confirms it.

PowerDVD and NVDVD. It seems to use PowerDVD decoders.

About DVD copying... Since WMA Pro supports 5.1, do you think it'll store the 5.1 soundtrack? I mean stereo files dont get coded as WMA Pro tho it supports 2 channels.

I also found this in the help.

Copying a DVD

Not documented in this release.

TocopyvideofromaDVD

Also DVDs/VCDs both work great. All my DivX videos work now.(Tested 82 different divx movies!) Not only do they all work but there is less problems with sound delay and seeking through the video is much faster.

The controls on the task bar is called the "Windows Media Band". I was at work and I got an error that said, "Windows Media Band has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

I just thought that was intresting. Now we know the name of the Minimized feature.
