The marriage license get?s the job done because without it you are not legally married, yes the person preforming the ceromony does have to sign it, but you could do all the vows in the court house within 1 hour. So that would make an actual wedding of the same vows mainly for show. Some would call it a Tradition, while others call it a celebration. I call it more of a show, but that?s just me.

Now go vo:D :D

yes a priest does have to sign it,

Say what.

I would say its just for sure, but a great excuse to get tipsy and hit on someone who you hope you aren't related to.

It typically depends on who you ask, and I am referring to gender in this case.

For men, typically, it just out of tradition. For Women, it much much more. Its symbolic, its a momentous occasion that she wants to show and celebrate with everyone that she found the man of her dreams and live happily ever after. Which is why they like big elaborate weddings. I have talked to many women about this subject and this is the general consensus. Thats why shows like "Do you want to marry a millionare" are so popular, not by men but women viewers.

to me it's celebration time. there is so much unhappiness in the world, that, if done right, a wedding can be one of those great, everyone gets together and gets drunk fun times.

speaking of which, my own is only 7 months away! SCARY!

run for the hills!!!!!!!

ripped

congrats! I think it's a celebration as well, showing your love for one another and making it permanent (well...at least it should be permanent)

It is none of the above.. it is for the bride.. to make her feel good, and her mother. Nothing more, nothing less.

In the UK you pay some taxes lower (or something like that) if you're married. So really, I guess you're just telling other people what the two of you know already, just in case they hadn't noticed.

It's just a party. I happen to be planning (sure ... we all know the woman does all the planning) one right now. If you are religious it would say tradition and probably something you think is necessary to make your holy bond with god. But if not, it's just a party where you get to get drunk and hang out with your friends and family.

Its a celebration of their love. An occasion to bring families together. A chance for other singles to meet each other. A great way to get the new couple started off (from all the wedding gifts/money).

But most of all it is for the parents. This is one of the moments they've waited for, after raising their kid all those years, they are finally starting a family of their own.

in my opinion it's a show. i really don't want a wedding especially one of the indian ones which take ages. but if my wife wanted one really badly i might have one. but i'm most likely going to be forced to have a wedding and have like 500 people that i don't know there.
