New Windos Media Player 11 Screenshot

Recommended Posts

Am I the only one who thinks this is the laziest excuse for a media player out there? It just looks like a jumble of data scattered on a white sheet of paper. There is no way this could possibly be the final look for WMP. It looks 25% done, if that.

anyone notice this?

there's a difference in the Cleartype from the WMP11 UI (and taskbar icon) to the rest os the text on the taskbar.

Notice that the text on the clock has the usual Windows XP Cleartype red/blue color decomposing (sub-pixel bla bla bla). Whilist any text related to WMP11 doesn't: the text in the UI, the text on the taskbar entry, the text on the icons that are overlayed by the window's glass effect.

i REALLY hope that they move on to this new antialiasing mode (the one in WMP11) cause it looks drop-dead gorgeous :D

You'll find that if you look hard enough, you'll find lots of examples of this looking more like an official mockup from Microsoft that has been Photoshopped together than an actual screenshot. The text anti-aliasing is one of them. (Note, I'm not saying this isn't a Microsoft work, I firmly believe it is. I'm saying its an MS mockup)

I was thinking that EXACT same thing. There is hardly any speratino of the different elements. Its pretty, but not overly practical.

Man, i have been saying alot of stuff about Vista being crap and looking crap, but if it ends up looking like that, i'll be running it when it's released.

Yeah, Vista is getting a new form of Font Smoothing, that's what your seeing, it's powered by the graphics card.

I remember reading about the new font smoothing in MS developer doc's from a while back.

Yep, it's looking slick. :)

Did anyone else notice the subtle difference in the look of the buttons in the title bar?

Here's a screenshot I took comparing it to 5219:

See what I mean? The color of the close button has changed from a bright red to a vermillion shade. But the nice glow that bleeds out from the window in current builds seems to be missing. And of course, the maximize button has clearly changed too.

Looks unorganized.

I think it's a safe bet to say this is a (Microsoft) mock-up....

vista_ctp2_01.jpg

For a start there is a tier missing from the tree menu, there are no artists listed yet there is one selected (see above pic for the kind of layaout it "should" be displaying with "Artists" selected), plus I?m guessing the anti-aliased text from the content of the window is an artefact of Photoshop, not the new engine. Saying that I see no reason why it shouldn?t look like this when its finished (albeit more polished) and I can't wait until that day, I for one are beginning to get ragged off with iTunes and it's unwillingness to "play ball".

Is it me, or does the taskbar look different in that build too. For one it isnt transparent, and it has a line through it, unlike other builds where its just a gradient.

probably because it is set to hidden.

heh..

It's just a media player.

It's what it sounds like, and what video looks like when they are played through it, is what counts.

Personally I think the whole transparency thing looks tacky. I was running KoL's version of it in windows blinds for ..oooooooooooh.. a whole 15 minutes. I just don't get it, and it doesn't really work.

That color scheme makes it look like it was built for Suse Linux. Baby sh** green!! Yuck!!

I never have have personally given a rats a** about what the program looks like as long as it works. In fact, first thing I always do is turn off themes/skins and associated crap like that.

Don't take this as trolling 'cause I am not even a Mac user, but it DOES look a lot like iTunes (which isn't a problem for me 'cause I like iTunes). I personally like competition b/c I think it brings out the best in all sides (but that's just me).

The shot looks fantastic I think!

Anyways, here's an article on the October release:
