Buying new cell phone...

Recommended Posts

anyone know any good guidelines/tips for buying a new cell? this phone will be used in America (California) and Taiwan (not often, but sometimes)

so far I am eyeing the v60, v66, and sony ericsson's t68i (though I don't like the color...) and nokia's 8xxx series (ones with cover that covers the number pad)

[edit 1]

I was just browsing Nokia's site and now I have one more in mind, the Nokia 8890. though it is kinda crazy on the price scale, approx $499.99, so basically $500.

but no matter, currently I am not too worried about price since I am planning on to use "this" phone for more than 2 years.

btw, 8890 works in 179 countries in 5 continents :)

keep suggestions and tips coming :)

[edit 2]

I believe Taiwan is GSM compatiable, but in U.S, it's tri-band, is it not?

Not exactly sure if it works in Tawain... but since the v60 series wasn't out when I needed a new cell phone I got the Panasonic Allure and have been very happy. Light weight, decent battery life, custom backlight colors (through software :) ), voice activated calling, voice memo, 4-entry and special ring phoen book with 300 contacts, screen saver (yes), speaker phone, awesome silver look. No complaints.

the 8890 is a great phone, but it is about 4 years old, and discontinued by nokia, it has no wap or GPRS, its feature set is very weak compared to an 8390/8310 which is smaller and better, the only thing th e8890 has going for it is its cool factor.

i own a T68i and your going to spend about 400USD for that phone, it is tri-band, gsm/gprs with bluetooth, and a TON of other features, plus color.

the nokia 7210 is also very cool, not out yet, but also color.

the V60g is a nice phone, but a new version the v60ig is on its way with removable face plates and java games.

the v66 is garbage in my 2 cents.

you may want to look at the T66 ericsson, SUPER SUPER SMALL, basic phone.

anywho, go chk out www.howardforums.com for a great forum, and www.howardchui.com for a TON of phone reviews, including all the ones you mentioned.

I think they'll come out with something that works on the 800/1900 bands used in the US, just slight renamed as they did with the old good (and still in my pockets!) SGH-A100.

just to keep you guys notified. couple hours ago I just bought myself the Sony Ericsson T68i. Turns out the blue wasn't baby blue in color after all. (though online pics really depict it as baby blue)

It's a pretty cool phone, but I sorta got a odd problem right now. For some reason, my new T68i will cut off other people's call. i.e: the person tries to call my number, and after 4 rings, my cell cuts them off and automatically display it as missed call. and it don't even matter how long the person is waiting, after 4 rings, and it cuts off. heh, someone help me out here?

[edit 1]

Hehe, I seem to have figured it out for the ringing thing

btw, my grandpa uses the P280 :)
