macmax
Just read an article today. Scientists scanning a galaxy 12 million light years with NASA's Spitzer space telescope detected copious amounts of nitrogen containing polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PaHs) molecules critical to all known forms of life. They carry information for DNA and RNA and are important component of haemoglobin.
BAW
I voted for 2010-2020 only because there wasnt an option for 2050. I think around 2050 there will be some sort of finding, i always have

quick
We've already found it, just not publicly... :alien:
RogueNW
Already happened. Then promptly covered up by the powers that be. Hell, recently, even the Indian (country of India) parliment was discussing wether they should make everything they already know about this subject public or not. [SKM-Industries]
yeh, i read that article in NewScientist, very interesting stuff. i think we'll find planets with primitve ecosystems first, then maybe some earth-like worlds and maybe, further-out, some more advanced cultures, not necessarily space faring, but showing signs of crop cultivation and the biginings of an industrial society. i suppose 'alien life' is a very broad term, for the basic plant life and maybe and eco-system with some basic animals, i say 2020 or so, but for more complex environments and sentient life-types, maybe 2050 perhaps.. of course, i have no basis for these claims, but the numbers felt about right,
IGx89
IMHO we probably will never, since the main reasoning for life existing on other planets is based on the theory of evolution (which is not a proven scientific fact). If we ever do find life on another planet, my guess is that it will have come from Earth (the spaceship, falling debris, etc...) :)
john fru
the idea of finding life in 10 or 50 years is riduculous. its going to take at least thousands of years for any signal of ours to reach another planet which could have life on, and a similar time for them to reply. and thats could only happen if we assume we just happen by chance to point the tranmitter in the right direction, and that life on the other side is evolved enough to hear it, understand it, and send back. The_Mask
The thing is, of course if we find it'll be primitive. since if it's not, they'll probably find us. It's kind of silly to think that in this all universe were the only living thing. so, they're allready there. If they do cover up the "meetings", i really dont know why, since i guess the public it's allready more prepared to that kind of thing. And there are facts that are just to obious to be denied. any way.. you know the drill - the truth is out there.
macmax
Yup i wish i could edit the Poll .. add two more options 2050 ( more likely ) The Govt knows all about it. But wont let us know
Berto
:alien:  They are among us already for sure. Just look at how much technology has exploded on the scene in such short time.
Nebula2020
We will never "meet" any ETs, the distance involved is just to great. Unless we eventually can travel at light speed. We may receive a radio signal as in SETI. I heard Stephen Hawking say this. :)
Daninku
I don't know... but I think, there is this chance of about 90% that other life exists in other gallaxies far away. One very simple reason that I remember our science teacher told us was that if a planet is at a good position from the sun, life would survive. (I mean if they have approximately the same space between our planet and the sun) ... sorry my language  But I don't think aliens do exist similar to humans, I believe aliens similar to animals and plants yes ... but since earth was without humans at teh beginning there is a possibility that they exist ... so it's kinda confusing ... dunno  ... udnerstand? :p :shifty: ;) EDIT: I did not answer the question eventually, but I think it's not too far since we discover or invent some type of technology by which we can travel at very very high speeds (speed of light or something). Just remember how technology is advancing. Do you think people from the 80's ever imagined a PDA or anything from todaoys' technology devices? Doli
Cant really put a number on when we will find something such as life in outerspace. Is there something out there? space is too big for us to be alone.
Chosen One
I'd say the government knows about them already and it's just a huge coverup like usual with the governement. And why does everyone well almost everything think if were going to find another life form that it needs our atmosphere type to live?
CruJones
anyone see men in black? Why is that not possible? Made me stop and think after i saw it. Think about it. Watch it again. Possible? yes! Sometimes the best place to hide things is right under our nose!
