if it didn't cost an arm and a leg and a loan from the mafia, i would. price is probably the main reason that people DO pirate windows. i could see maybe $100 for XP home (talking when it was first released)..... MAYBE $150 for Professional. spending like $200 for home when it first came out.... that's freakin ridiculous. i'm glad that they've said Vista may be a LOT cheaper when it's released..... but that's not entirely confirmed yet.

i have 3 copies of XP Home from OEM mahines

2 XP Pro CD's from school

1 XP Pro x64 CD from school

All legal, and I have devils own, x64 corp, x64 server corp, 2003 corp, ect

If i could not have gotten xp from online i'd have had to wait till 2003 to get it legaly(on new machine) but i still use 2000 mostly so i wouldnt care.

Honestly if they made 2000Pro x64 i'd still be running it.

seeing as how my legit copy will not activate. I do not see apoint in paying $300 for another copy that will not do me any good if i end up having to pirate it again in 3 months anyway

I only used a non-legit copy of Windows until I could afford the mac... then the mac mini came out and My prayers were answered... never looked back (although I keep the windows version cos everyone I know comes to me with a problem)

No. Windows' true value isn't much.

OS-X sells for cheaper than XP Home and is more complete as an O/S unlike Windows which you have to add lots of software for people like us anyway.

Heres a real question. Would you use Windows if you couldn't pirate/crack any software? In other news, the number of users using photoshop decreased dramatically. More at 11.

I'd permanently move on Linux if I had no possible way of acquiring windows for dead-cheap or if the MSDN Academic Alliance thing didn't exist for me to us to get free licenses at school.

Yes. I did, one copy per machine back home (3 PC desktops, 4 laptops) and all are legal. Desktop copies were bought on the day of release, despite having the final version off t'interweb. There's even a copy on the Powermac, but that came with Virtual PC.
