IE7 installation problem... help

Recommended Posts

I try to install IE7 on my pc and it gives me the following error: (see attached)

I'm running Windows XP Pro and yes it's a legit version and i have been validated before.

edit: also forgot to mention i had it installed before, but i uninstalled it a while back, maybe there's a problem with that? can anyone help verify or maybe clear the problem?

I've got the same problem. I follow the instructions and it fails to validate and the process loops.

I have legit XP, and I downloaded IE7 from my MSDN Universal account so I know the file is OK. I had it working fine before, then I did a format and it's fubar'ed. :(

Or maybe it's a first beta and those of you having problems should do what you're supposed to do and report this as a bug to Microsoft through normal beta-testing channels - assuming you downloaded it legally through MSDN.

Do a Windows Update and install the Windows Genuine Advantage validation tool, that was the only way I could get it to install. I clicked the link for the validation on the window shown in your picture, but it would never validate for some reason until I installed the tool, and yes my version of XP is legit, bought and paid for by me tyvm.

That's not an error message, just go and do what it says.

Is IE7 still available? I had it and was having problems with it and uninstalled (forgetting to keep .exe) :(

I was using the IE7 beta for a while with the AdBLock beta 3.. unfortunately it blocks WAY to much.

Microsoft needs to open the base for an extension type system to allow for more user control/configuration.

The tabs are good, in fact I liked them better than FireFox's (which I currently use).

The error you are getting from the validation page is not that your Windows is not validating, but the fact the tool itself is not connecting to the beta server to validate the IE7 internal tool.

Typical MS garbage... look of their newsgroups as they have posted a fixed URL for it.

Right here: https://connect.microsoft.com/downloads/dow...4&downloadid=73

And if you can't access that site, then you can't get IE7. It's a private beta.

It's a not so private Beta... anyone that attended the Visual Studio 2005 Launch Events in the last few months has received a copy. That is where I got mine but like so many other's it won't install. I get the same error as everyone else that it fails to validate my version of windows, which I might add is fully legal.
