Athlon XP and temperature(s)

Recommended Posts

Hello all.

I'll go straight to the point this time ;)

Athlon XP 1500+ with AMD certified fan (4400 RPM, thermal paste and heat sink)

Now I was wondering what kinds of temperatures would be expectable from this configuration. Currently I'm getting temperatures of up to 43 degrees (celsius) and on average 40 degrees.

Has anyone have a similar configuration?

What are your temperatures for the CPU?

And most importantly what would be the temperature, where I should be worried?

:?

Thanx all.

I have an Athlon XP 1.46 Mhz (whatever AMD rating that equals). It is running at 100% cpu usage almost 24/7 during the winter with the stock fan. It stays between 145-157 F. The ASUS motherboard runs at room temperature always. The temperature was taken by the onboard heat sensors. I plan to upgrade teh cooling system.. just don't have a clue where to begin :ermm:

Your temps are perfect, dont worry about them at all.

The max range when you should worry is about 75-80, at 90 you can RIP lol!!!

well is it a retail heatsink or just one that you know amd says is good enough. im just wondering becuase on my moms retail heatsink there is wax so it does not need any paste. um the wax isnt any good really but if you put the paste on the heatsink on the wax then that would make the temperature higher. but your temps are fine.

and i assume those are idle temps so thats not too bad. i have mine run at full load and 43 degrees but then again i am using a high speed fan and all. so your temps are just fine

I have an Athlon XP 1.46 Mhz (whatever AMD rating that equals).

1700 is the pr for that chip. and then any deviation of about 66mhz is another rating deviation.

or you may just want to try to cool it some more, that never hurts and will only do good things. you could drop a couple degrees with a better heatsink and fan and that could extend the life of your chip.

Well I idle 50ish and under heavy load hit 60-63 often. AthlonXP 2000+ with standard cooling that came with it. :)

LOL u live in an igloo or something. It must be the temp sensor on my mobo reading high i sware. Cuz theres no way in hell my cpu can hit 50C max load with a swiftech mcx462. Maybe i'll get a digi doc 5 :D

No those aren't idle temperatures, that I'm talking about.

So it is all right with the temperatures :)

Thanx for the replyes all. ;)

No wonder why thoses temperatures differences. It all depends on where your CPU Temp. sensor is :s

Mine is between the CPU Core and my Water-Cooled Heatsink (Koolance) and I get temperatures around 36C when idle and 40-42 at high loads.

But theses days, the weather is sooo hot and humid that I get 40C at idle and 44 at high loads :old:

haha 43 is good.

msi boards read like 15 C lower just for you people with them

my board reads a bit high, because its temp sensor is unlike any other boards, it actually touches the cpu core.

on average i get 50-55 C during summer

and on coldish days like 45-50

Mine was around 60-67C, down to 50-55C now that I took off the side and stuck a regular fan next to it. Not bad, 10C off. So remember if you want cooler temps fast, just stick a fan next to it.

how do you check the temperature without going into bios?

My amd athlon xp 1800+ has a temperature of around 45 during bootup, but my computers been freezing a lot during games. Is this because the cpu is overheating? Or is this some other hardware problem.

games use 100% of the CPU so it should be hotter then (that's the load temps) My load temp on my 1800+ is about 47C. My normal temps is 39C and my case temp is 35C so i guess...

I'm using a ThermalTake Volcano 7 @ 3800RPM (not the PLUS version) and 2 intake fans and 2 outake (plus the PSU so add one more i guess but it sometimes don't even run. It's ice cold in there! :) ) It turns on when it needs to.

oh and get something like www.hmonitor.com or motherboard monitor. I rather and use Hmonitor.
