Just wondering but do any of you convert your music files to AAC with iTunes? I might restore my iPod nano and then convert all my music in my library to AAC and then update my iPod. Anybody else do this?

Never ever transcode!

I don't see any problem with making a mp3 a aac. I had a mp3 encoded at 320kbs and I converted it to aac in iTunes and the quality sounds the same.

If I ever download a really high quality mp3 (320kbps) I convert them to AAC at 192kbps, because it's very high quality at a slightly smaller file size - which helps because I have a small hard drive. I also import my CD's in AAC at 192kbps for the same reasons.

I dont like AAC, people who like it must have bad hearing at some ranges because it crackles slightly in places - or maybe thats just iTunes downloads, Ive downloaded 20 songs from iTunes and wont download anymore because its disappointing each time. Im sticking to mp3 on my ipod because I might change to another player one day if someone offers better quality downloads and don't want to have to re-encode all my music.

I tried Creative's "SuperRip" with my new X-Fi card. I used 192Kbps to be able to compare it to my current 192Kbps AAC files. The resulting WMA files sounded like ASS. :x
