iNRaDium
Hi all!! I have a 120GB IBM HD (120GXP Serie) and I had to follow some steps about the BIOS limitation.. I've done everything correct but now I bought a new computer and as my BIOS hasn't got that limitation ANYMORE, I would like to UNDO those steps to make it like it was from factory. I mean, clean without that kind of "emulation" so the BIOS would recognize it.. I used the IBM step-by-step tutorial to make it compatible with BIOS with 33GB limitation..but now I want to make it 120GB as my BIOS fully supports it :) How can I do this ? By a low level format ? Thanks for all the help !!
username
get a windows 9x startup disk and go an fdisk and delete all the partitions (if any) and make a new one so it takes the entire disk. If you have Windows XP, just boot with the CD in and it will do the rest with your help
iNRaDium
I'm not sure if it's only the partition that made the drive to boot on the BIOS .. If it is, I will use the winxp cd and I will delete..create a new one with full size. What about if it changed some stuff that's it's not about partioning ? Thanks for this quick answer mate! iNRaDium
eheh My BIOS hasn't got any limitation now..so, I just need to delete the partition made by the Disk Manager utility from IBM and then create a new one with the full size? Thanks for all mate!
username
yeah, if you bios does not have any limitation, you should be just fine with XP formatting the entire disk as one partition
Shifty
ya definately do what username said... use the 9x boot disk or the WinXP boot CD. that partition manager that IBM gave you with your drive is nothing more than a glorified and buttered up fdisk. you should have no problems using the 9x or XP boot method. i prefer the 9x disk since it boots faster and with just a few simple commands and 20 minutes you can de-partition that drive and format it. RadishTM Veteran Posted July 24, 2002 Veteran Share Posted July 24, 2002 iNRaDium, when u start up the old PC did a Ontrack Blue Bar used to come up? If so you have the Dynamic Drive Overlay installed, its for BIOS'es that have a 33GB Limit, its there so you can overide the BIOS limitation and boot off the hard disk, but in Windows you can use the full space of the drive... If this is what it is, you need a boot disk from IBM hard disk site, which will get rid of it for you, there is screenshots of DOS as well :) Hope this helps....... Radish. RadishTM Veteran Posted July 24, 2002 Veteran Share Posted July 24, 2002 iNRaDium go to - http://www.storage.ibm.com/hdd/support/download.htm and download the IBM Disk Manager boot disk. The program on the boot disk is very straightforward and uses menus in DOS, so it shouldnt be a problem, if your havin trouble contact me on MSN :) Radish.
