black.ops
Absolutely not. And I'm going to have to kill anyone who votes yes for the good of the English language. I try my best not to use it, but it's a stupid habit.

Kev1n
I've been using lol so much that that day during my major exams I nearly wrote lol in my essay. So what do you think? I mean lol makes up 99% of the internet (and 99.9% of counter strike chat).

Deathray
Why would you even need to use it in your exams or assignments . Regardless, it should not be allowed, no reason why it should be allowed.

TokyoKiller
There is something called "Proper english, grammer and spelling", if you cant stay along those lines then you may need to consider going into more english classes or maybe read more books and articles. m!ke
honestly I've barely ever been inclined to use 'lol' after realising I verbally said "lol" out loud, with natural flow and intent, when a friend cracked a joke.

And English is always capitalized. There are alot more faults in that statement too, but I really don't want to point ALL of them out. ;)

JiveMasterT
oh boy. do you realize most people type lol without actually laughing out loud? in internet speak it has been changed to basically mean "oh thats funnay!!!1111!!oneone!!!" I'll admit, I use it for that to, but there's no reason you should ever use that when speaking, or when writing a paper. If you find yourself doing that or you have to catch yourself, then you might want to consider pressing the windows key + u, s, then enter... this will free you from your prison known as your computer which you obviously spend more time in front of than you should. Pick up the phone, go drink a beer, nail a prostitute, play basketball... whatever... as long as it doesn't involve "lol". edit... warning... those key combinations there will shut down more windows pcs. don't actually do it unless you really intend on shutting down your pc. you've been warned. i take no responsibility for your stupidity. Anyway, to the original poster; why in the world do you think 'lol' should be allowed in school reports? English has already suffered enough and it's really a shame that many foreigners that learn English, speak and read it with more proficiency than do native speakers. This would only help to perpetuate the downward spiral of 'proper English'. The only reason that it should be allowed in a school report or any report for that matter is if it is coming directly from a quote that contains 'lol'. In any other case, in what context could you possibly be speaking to in your report or essay that would warrant you saying 'laughing out loud' ? This is yet another pointless post, posted by someone just to see themselves 'speak'; so-to-speak. Ryan
BlueFiberOptics
Hell no. I can't stand the people that just write "lol" at the end of their sentences when it is not even f**king funny.

iamhiddensomewhere
First of all, what the hell is the point of using "lol" in schoolwork/essays? You're not having a casual conversation with the teacher/professor, "lol" would just be a waste of his time, and make you look like a fool. If you want to be taken seriously, make the effort to spell properly. It's an internet acronym, I'd prefer it not creep into academia. If that were to happen, I'd be forced to flip out and murder innocent people, and you don't want that to happen, right? If you don't want people to die, vote "No". If you are a sadomasochistic pile of pathetic nothing, vote "Yes".
