A cordless mouse: joy or a headache?

Recommended Posts

Thinking about a cordless optical Logitech... but I am not sure if it is going to be a right decision. I am worried about problems in the signal transfer that can translate in errors.

How this works? Does the mouse per se carry a battery?

Thanks for your help.

I'm also concerned of one technical aspect of a cordless mouse. How does the electrostatic charges accumulated at the trackball get discharged when it cannot have a earth line like what was in the original cord-mouse? The charges can easily go up to 10kV, distroying the internal chip.

my friend has one and it's good to me. I don't think i'd get one tho but maybe if my TV card didn't have a remote!

speaking of which.. anyone found WinDVR yet? GRRR, intervideo released it but it's still not on their site.

Cordless Mice are great, i have the Microsoft Cordless Intellimouse Explorer (top of the range one at present) and its so good! my mouse wire used to keep catching on my scanner (my desk is cluttered), now i have wireless joy :) the batteries dont last that long, but i have 4 rechargeables that i keep in rotation, two in the mouse, two on recharge, when it runs out i just switch them over :D

and shotta: is this some new version of WinDVR or somethin? cos i've had WinDVR for quite a while, dunno wot version though.

I'm using a Logitech Cordless Mouseman Optical (part of the Cordless Freedom Optical coz I also have a wireless keyboard) and its great. I use Energizer batteries and they last at least a couple of months. I've found with cheaper batteries such as Eveready just don't cut it though and don't last as long. Cordless mice are heavier than cord mice too and if ur a gamer the refresh rate may be a bit low. For me it is a joy even if its refresh rate is pretty average it still works great and is very comfortable. I'd highly recommend the Cordless Freedom Optical with the wireless keyboard too as the keyboard is great to type on and its black (I haven't replaced the keyboard batteries yet and ive had it since January)

i personally don't like them. the batteries make them heavy, the batteries need replacing, and the Logitech cordless my mom has sometimes has problems with the reciever or something. i don't think it's too far away, the reciever just sits on top of the comp, and the mouse is on the desk. just sometimes it stops moving.

I got one with my Logitech Cordless Desktop Optical (or is it optical cordless desktop? cordless optical desktop?) - that cool black keyboard / mouse combo. I never use it - it ran out of batteries (first time in 8 months) the other day, I haven't replaced them since. Still it's nice to have the option and Windows is fine with two mice installed.

The best mouse in the world ever is the corded version of the right handed mouse - the Mouseman Dual Optical. Wonderful mouse, even better than the Intellimouse Explorer 3 I had before it ... and that took some beating.

I don't really prefer cordless mouse, since they have had many problems and complaints by people. And changing batteries to often doesn't sound fun.

The one i'm currently using is MS' IntelliMouse Explorer v3.0 and it owns. Tried Logitech's dual mouseman optical, and using my super fast mouse movements skilled, dual mouseman couldn't handle it as good as intellimouse explorer did, in addition to that, the intellimouse has 2 easy to reach button, while the dual mouseman has only one and i find it difficult to reach....so, MS IE v3.0 is the best mouse IMO :)

oops..sorry for going a little OT there, just bought the mouse, i'm excited :D Anyway, i'd prefer corded mouse rather than a cordless one.

I also have the Logitech cordless keyboard/mouse combo. Since I have a small desk area the mouse is excellent. I agree with previous comments about the batteries. I use the bunny battery and get almost 3 months from a set. The keyboard is still on it's original batteries and I've had mine since November. Since prefrences are the topic of discussion I enjoy the heavier feel to the mouse. Doing work in graphics is easier with an optical input and they heavy feel makes precision easier. On the matter of connection between the mouse and the receiver, it's true every now and then they lose connection. It's happened to me three times since November but pressing the recessed reset button on the bottom of the mouse cured the problem. These are radio frequency and not IR. My receiver is tucked away behind my monitor and the keyboard is in a tray. No problems at all.

Sorry so long winded but I would hate to go back to using the old style kb/mouse.

I hate my wireless mouse and keyboard. If the batteries go down to half power or less they start to cut out for no reason. It's a pain in my ass. I've also had problems with them while I'm playing games. And I've heard that they have serious problems at LAN parties. I'm going out tomorrow and I'm buying a real mouse and a real keyboard...

I hate wireless... you are always having to replace batteries. You buy an expensive wireless mouse and then have to pay more money to go buy batteries everytime you run out.

Personally... I buy wire ones - they are cheaper, and you don't have to keep buying things for it.

I love my new IntelliMouse Explorer v.3, MS replaced my old IntelliMouse Explorer with the v3 after it started to die, and it took some getting used to the change (the buttons on the side seem very sensitive compared to v2). I wouldn't get a wireless mouse/keyboard unless you have a reason to.
