Invoking a hard drive warrenty based on SMART diagnosis

Recommended Posts

Ok. On the evening before I go on a week holiday, my hard drive has chosen to diagnose its imminant faliure.

My question is: Based on the SMART diagnosis, can I invoke the warrenty. If so, is it the normal route I have to take? (I'm in the UK)

Regards,

Dan.

Yeah, a quick visit to the manufactures website should give you everything you need to know. Most even have a diagnostic you can run to give an error code when requesting the RMA.

OK. I can't find anything on Maxtor's website, so as its not a total faliure but its outside the 90 day warranty, do I just take it to the place of purchace and ask if they will do anything if the drive is still just about working? (it spins down every now and again in heavy usage)

I had same thing with my 60gig HD from Maxtor and I am in UK, Maxtor are ****ing useless when it comes to returns so phone up where u brought it and they will diagnose it themselves and return it to maxtor who will send you one back :D You have a 1year warranty with Maxtor

Wow, only a 90-day warranty? Is that normal in the UK? I have a Maxtor diagnostic, but I can't seem to locate it on the site. Weird since I got it about 2-hours ago.

**Edit** do a search for 'powermax' on the site and it should pull up links to the diagnostics with instructions.

Its 1 year minumum warrenty (legally) in the UK, but the 90 days gives you some sort of prefential treatment I think.

No results.

EDIT: Google found it on the site, even if their search engine didn't :)
