Techneaux
I've just purchased an ECS k7S5A board with a amd 1500+ althon, though I'm not sure how powerful of a power supply to get. In another post here I've seen someone recommend this board and a 400w power supply to someone, but I'm wondering if I can go with a 300w power supply as I'm tight on cash now? In the box I'll have a cdrom, a cd burner, two harddrives, a very simple (4 meg or so) video card, simple soundblaster sound card, and a 56k modem. I know different power supplies even in the same wattage can power more, all depending on how good it is, but generally, will a 300w be enough? Lower? Higher? Thanks in advance. :)
Zerostar13
Minimum nowadays is 300. Especially if your gonna have 2 optical drives.
username
its not the wattage (300w 400w) its the total output on the 5v and 3v which should be at least 180w for no problems. There are 400w PSU which cannot run at 1500+ out there, its all about the 3v and 5v combined output. Here is a link to AMD approved PSUs http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/Produc...48^4358,00.html Now mine is a crappy 320w PSU with 165w on the 3v and 5v, it runs my 1600+ fine but I cannot overclock, so i get what i paid for. Better to be safe than sorry.
