Very nice setup! You may want to consider getting the 128MB version of the 4200, cause most of the textures in newer games like Doom 3 and UT2003 exceed 64MB.

Ok thats all i can afford so anything extra is out of the question. I know its basically a good setup, but is it good value, and is it a good time to buy?

yeah, better vid card and i would go with a better heatsink, thermaltake is kinda cheap, but if you have good case ventilation, it should be fine

Why don't you drop out the Audigy and Just get a Live! 5.1, then you could use the extra money to get the 128mb video card??

Other than that its a sweet setup.

AMD Athlon XP 2000+

MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU

512MB Corsair XMS PC2700

SOund Blaster Live 5.1 Platinum

PNY Geforce 4 ti 4400

100 gig WD 7200 RPM

Isn't it worth buying the audigy? I hear Creative fixes problems and adds new EAX features. Plus, the Audigy processor is 2000MIPS vs 1000MIPS.

ok heres the low down :p

here are the probs:

Thermaltake Volcano 6Cu

LeadTek Geforce 4 Ti 4200 64MB OEM

300W AOpen PSU

reasons:

the Volcano heatsink isnt a very good kooler and gets quite bad reviews

if ur gonna get a GF4 try upgrade to 128MB, 64MB aint gonna do it for new games like UT2k3 and upcomming Doom3

finally 300W isnt gonna cut it nowadays..300W will only just get ur GF4 i sugest at least 400W and try go for a brand like Enermax (Really good quality)

replacements:

CoolerMaster HHC001 HEATPIPE (Heatsink)

LeadTek Geforce 4 Ti 4200 128MB

430W Enermax PSU Dual Fan

conclusion:

the box isnt gonna be the best obviously but for price its pretty damn good!! if u had some extra money id try get some more HDD space..maybe 80GB

rest is all pretty good...if ya want..u can eaisilly OC the 2000+ to 2200+ ;) heh

you're not saving much by buying a Live 5.1 over an Audigy. pratcially nothing.
