if you aren't going to be doing much gaming and aren't doing anything that is very demanding of your video, then just get the 7500 64 MB DDR. It'll be faster than the SDR and more sufficient to your needs. The 9000 will just be excessive. You will be paying for more than you need.

Had to vote for the 9000 since you said C&C Generals. Being that it'll be realtime 3d you'll want the fastest one there, in addition the 9000 was the only Dx 8.1 card up there so it'll be relevant longer than the others, since they're both Dx 7.

dood. if you're going to get a high-end card, then also upgrade your system too. you're doing your vid card a disservice by having a slower processor and pc100 ram. the ram on your vid card will be also as fast as your core proccesor = anyways, my vote goes towards waiting and seeing how the nv30's come out. but i am extremely happy with my gf4 ti4400, i got it for around 280 OEM. not a bad price and awesome performance.

Did you just say the RAM on his vid card will be faster than his CPU? :) hmmm anyway no point in upping his sys spec, if he is using the PC for mainly business type stuff its a waste of money upgrading the RAM/CPU for the card when all that will benifit him most will be when playing games. Which if he is not going to do much of....

The matrox range are quite good, but if he is planning on playing some games then its not really a good idea :) Apart from that the GF4 ti4400 or NV30 would be quite overkill for MS Word & Dreamweaver anyway would it not. ;)

Im not sure about what he meant with the Heatsink/FAN but all new cards already have these. If not there is something lacking :s oh and that PIII 800 should be of the Coppermine variety and it might be an idea to swop out that PC100 for some PC133 if he has some spare cash. :)
