nomis_nehc
I am just curious to how many people leave their cell phones on 24 hours. I do. And does is lower its lifespan because it's always on? If it does, how much shorter?
lawtai
I used to turn it off at night, but now I just leave it on 24/7 unless I need to turn it off. I'm not sure about it lowering the battery life span though.
JodyWatts
I leave mine on 24/7, partly because I could get calls from the plant (or other IT staff) at any point. I do leave it in the charger when I am at home though ... so it is charged when I am ready to go!
sailgreg
It may shorten the life, but it will still last many years :) I can get mine replaced for free every year, so there is nothing to worry about :)
Hypercube
Even though it shortens the lifespan, it is still longer than the rate you replace it at to stay "current" :)
aco Veteran Posted July 28, 2002 Veteran Share Posted July 28, 2002 I know some people who leave it on 24/7, but there is really no need unless you may receive important calls during the night.
iconman
I always turn it off before i go to bed and turn it on when i wake up
KayMan2K
I turn it off when I am not out of my room. In my room the signal (for some reason) messes with my computer monitor and normal telephone. Its really strange and ONLY happens in my room. But then again.. I have so many wireless devices and electronics in my room it could be anything that goes wrong. Apollo
i leave it on sometimes not tonight though i usually turn it off when i have my battery low leaving it on shortens its life but not too much saying a battery lasts for about 5 years or so i guess leaving it on 24/7 takes out of its life about 6 months or a year

sp00nman
I turn mine off at night and charge it over night until I wake up... but, my cellphone has been able to keep on for at least 72 hours straight without charging... :)

nomis_nehc
hrmm, intersting. some of you misunderstood me though :) I meant the lifespan of the cell phone, not the battery. btw, my lithium polymer batter so far (as of now) is already in its 5th day and it has been on for 24 hours since I got it. (last Saturday)

Kenno
None of my friends I know turn their phone off unless the phones run out of battery. Don't have to worry about the life span, since by the time your phone is no longer working, a new model is already out!!! :)
configure Veteran Posted July 28, 2002 Veteran Share Posted July 28, 2002 I meant the lifespan of the cell phone I think it is not affected in this case, it's the lifespan of the battery that you should worry about. By the way, I've my turned on 24/7 and occationally set it to silent mode in some circumstance :p
Chicane-UK Veteran Posted July 28, 2002 Veteran Share Posted July 28, 2002 My phone is on pretty much 24/7 unless I go for something really important like a job interview - I never have it set to ring anyway (vibrate only) because on the Samsung A300 the ringtones are all crap :)
+Fulcrum Subscriber¹ Posted July 28, 2002 Subscriber¹ Share Posted July 28, 2002 this is a silly thread. Cell Phone's come and go, the ppl you contact through them is the importance. My friend (from High School, mind you) beefed up his cell phone to make it look like a matrix style (really was similar) one, and within a week of ownin it he LOST it, it's just not practical to own a phone if you dont use it (not sayin you dont, but I know he was just showin off), and if you use it, you probably should leave it on 24/7 in case of emergencies (I would just call his house, could never catch him on the cell). Lifespan? who cares, get a new one.

If your friend lost his phone, maybe he was not careful and perhaps deserved to be taught a lesson by that incident. And maybe you are right on one part, "get a new one". Yah, obviously I will get a new one if I lose my phone or it dies, but obviously not a smart idea to be buying cell phones often, they aren't cheap you know. and really, once again, I don't see how this is a silly thread... I originally posted because my phone before this current one just crapped out for no reason; I had left it on 24/7 for several straight months, never turned it off besides switching battery.
