Optimum Case Fan mounting?

Recommended Posts

Ok, im a bit puzzled here. Right now I only have 3 fans in my case, PCI Blower(out), Processor fan(in) and power supply fan(in) and I have a few spots on my case to put some more fans so I was wondering what type of fan you recommend, where I should put it and which air flow direction. The two spots I have left is front bottom under the hard drive mounts and one in the back towards the middle. Which would you say would be best for keeping everything cool? Thanks ahead of time!

the rule of thumb that i follow is to have a vacuum with in your case.

the way i used to have my case was a fan sucking cool air in from

the bottom front of the case, one mounted on the bottom doing

the same.

then i have 3 fans blowing air out. one by the CPU, PSU, and one

mounted on top.

without getting into technical stuff, having more air moving out

than in, is the best thing because if you have the opposite, that

means that warm air will stay in your case and heat up other

components. thats bad.

from what i told you, you would need a dremel tool or something

similar to cut a square out from the top and bottom of your case

and get some fans for those.

i also suggest eliminating as many gaps and open bays as

possible. this will ensure that your case is sealed and air flow

at its max.

i know i did a detailed text diagram like 5 months ago to someone

who posted the same question. if you could find that it would

be very helpful.

if you need any more cooling advice PM me and i'll answer it.

Ok, well the thing is my case is loaded with air holes so I wasn't sure if I should just pump as much air as I could in and let it escape through the air holes, or to tape em all shut and suck out as much air as possible. Thanks for the advice Shifty! :)

ya i would tape off the air holes. there is not guarantee

that the air will actually leave the case.

you want a constant even flow of air moving from bottom to top.

remember... create a vaccum in your case!!

if you have a lot of air holes in your case, have all of the fans sucking out. You may want to try the front case fan blowing in but you want the cool air coming in from the air holes on the sides of the case, they are there for a reason so use them.
