the type of ram you currently own will limit you to what you wanna buy, if you have 512 of SDRAM best you can do is a P4 i845 (SDRAM) as all new stuff is either DDR or is RDRAM

what kinda RAM is that... it depends on the RAM cuz maybe it's SDRAM and you can't use that in most mobos...

oh and how about giving me that TNT2 card. You wont need it anymore so maybe we could arange a lil deal :)

lol, u already have a gf3 :D

anyway, to be honest, i dont know that much at all about motherboards and where to get processors and stuff. should i look for something like this online? or should i just go to my local puter store and ask them to custom make me something with a case and stuff? i dunno, i heard u can save money online.

and if the ram limits me, im willing to buy more. actually, i think i can go up to 350 $, after selling two xbox games ;)

if anyone can, could u plz give me a link to a good online place where i could find something like this preassembled? cuz i know im gonna mess up if i put together the processor, motherboard, case etc. myself. heh

i think you should go to a store at least it worked for me

you should not have a problem with the ram, as i said before i got a 2000+ xp and that created no problem also for me as the MB i have accepts SDRAM and DDR (K7S5a)

oh and you still didn't say what kind of ram you got. You don't need anymore than 512MB not unless you are doing major 3D stuff like Maya** or Lightwave or 3D Studio MAX. No other programs need that much ram. Anyways... www.newegg.com is a good site but their prices are high to me and i usually find better deals on pricewatch. :)

I would stay away from those hybrid boards (DDR and SDR) since they cause problems. If you got SDRAM now i suggest you sell it (i might be needing it :) ) and get DDR since they are about the same price now anyways. DDR will give you a lil boost in speed and is just better than getting tons of slower ram.

/edit

even tho the mobos here aren't that good you can get a AMD XP 2200+ and mobo for 277 :)

http://www.pricewatch.com/1/306/4827-1.htm

or just get a AMD XP 2000+ for $126 and then get a good mobo from Asus, Abit or Epox
