doubts AthlonXp on KT133aMB?

Recommended Posts

I have an AthlonXP 1500+ on a Soyo K7VTA Pro(KT133A chipset) mobo and it works just fine. As a matter of fact the board supports the latest Thoroughbred AthlonXP's with the latest BIOS update. I have a friend who uses an AthlonXP 1900+ on a ECS K7VZA v3.0 mobo(it is KT133A also) with no problems.

Hey great news i wrote the same problem to the Soltek support e-mail. and i got reply.

the person "Tommy" wrote,i should flash the Mobo bios with latest BiosUpdate (which he had attached :) ) and set SW1 to 100Mhz . Then it should auto detect XP.

Hope this works my Mobo is out of gaurentee period:sleeping:

Actually I have a couple PIII systems, a P4 system and an Athlon XP system. The P5 avatar is a joke(obviously since there is no P5 yet ;P). I could've used a P4 logo for an avatar but there are already a few members with it so I figured I'd be original.

OMG i m saved i have 256 MB PC133 SD ram.

The tommy guy from Soltek has given me further detailed instructions below is the quote from his both of his e-mails:-

First mail:-

"Dead Sir

If you want to support the maximum processor. Can you please you

refer to as below information.

1 SL-75kv2-x belongs to VIA kt133 chipset. So it only supports

100 Mhz FSB speed of AMD Athlon TB or Duron processor.

So includes the AMD Athlon XP or TB of 133Mhz FSB speed

processor.your motherboard can`t support it.

2 Up to now,the maximum processor could up to 1.4G(100*14) of

TB and 1.3G (100*13) of Duron (include MORGAN) processor.

3 Otherwise, you only need to set the SW1 on 100Mhz.and the bios will

automatic detected. But you need to check the motherboard

has the latest BIOS version (Q10).

Tommy(FAE Engineer)

Email :Tommy@soltek.com.tw "

OK ,I know he means "Dear sir" but thats quite a mispell :paranoid: .

Second Mail:-

Dear Sir

Continued to last time problem.

Please you careful check as below setting again.

1 Update bios to Q10.

2 Make sure the jumper setting.

SW1 OFF,ON,OFF,OFF,ON (100 Mhz FSB)

SW2 OFF.OFF,OFF,OFF (default)

Besides,he bios will automatic detected.

Tommy(FAE Engineer)

Email :Tommy@soltek.com.tw

(BTW he has spelled "Dear" correctly this time.)

sitting tight here. i m getting Athlon XP 1.5 ghz(open) @ Rs. 5,400 i.e $100 approx tommorow. that means i will report my mission status around 7.30 pm GMT 2 morrow.

see ya then.

KYRO;)

Your mobo may support it, but i'd recommend against it. Using PC133 with an AthlonXP processor is like putting a straw on the end of a firehose, total bottleneck. What you may consider doing is getting a hybrid mobo that supports DDR AND SDR RAM, buy that first, then you can use the old RAM until you have enough money to buy new RAM. Then upgrade to DDR, i wouldnt stick with SDR for very long.

Also, if you FSB has to be set to 100mhz, you get a SERIOUS performance drop.

Hi everybody i m late to report.

But guess what i m running Athlon1800+ on my Soltek KT133 mobo. i should hand it to "Tommy" from soltek without him it wouldnt had happened.

But there is a problem because i have set my multipliers on default athlon is running @ 1.16 Ghz. i hav asked tommy for further guidance (my mobo is out-of-warranty so cant R&D on it).

CpuZ Screenshot

i know this can be worst sys config. Athlon1800 power house with KT133 (running@100 Mhz) and puny 133Mhz SD-ram.

if your were following my posts u might have noticed i m going through SYS Upgradatons bit-by-bit there is no way i m sticking with the MOBO and SD-ram.

to see why i m waiting for MOBO and ram Upgrade please visit my other post.

Your processor is running at 1.16Ghz because your FSB is only 100Mhz, thats the serious performance drop i was talking about lol. To get the Athlon to run at its full speed it must have an FSB of 133Mhz, which your mobo can't handle. Sorry dude, gotta get a new mobo to get that performance!

Your Athlon XP is only running at 1.16GHz. because you have your multipliers set to default. The default multiplier for an Athlon XP assumes a 133MHz. bus, but you only have a 100MHz. bus.

So right now, you have:

100 MHz. x 11.5 (multiplier) = 1.15GHz. (close enough)

Whereas, under normal circumstances (with a 133MHz. bus), one would have:

133MHz. x 11.5 (multplier) = 1.53GHz.

What you need to do is turn the multiplier up to 14, which from what I gather from the Soltek support email, is the maximum your motherboard can support. So then you would have:

100 MHz. x 14.0 (multiplier) = 1.40GHz.

That is, unfortunately, the maximum your motherboard can support. You might have some luck tweaking the bus speed up - every 1MHz. you up the FSB will get you 14 more MHz. out of your processor.

If you want to run the Athlon XP 1800+ at full speed, you need a different board.

I think not many people are not reading my post entirely so i hav quoted myself from my rpevious post . Please read it.

Anyway , "appletalking" u r right on the money. the reason i m not changing my multipliers is my mobo is (saying it again) OUT-OF-WARRANTY. i hav to sell it at good price;if not then stick it into a cheap rig i might build for some office purpose and then get a new Mobo with DDR Ram.

(i might try the *14 setting though.)

Dude, you're not going to hurt your motherboard by changing the multipliers. The motherboard doesn't care what number it multiplies the FSB by to get the CPU clock. You still won't be running the CPU at its full rated speed, so there won't be any heat issues.

AFAIK, there is absolutely no chance of you damaging your motherboard by changing the multiplier to 14. Unless, that is, you have to use jumpers to do it and you break a capacitor or something. ;)

Good luck,

Nick

Of course Appletalking , i m cool with "*14" multiplier that's, thats why my last line read in my previous post read "I might try *14.." AMOF i m trying it now . will post report in some minutes.

BTW quote-Unless, that is, you have to use jumpers to do it and you break a capacitor or something. :p I m still laughing.
