Intel Application Accelerator...worth it?

Question

When I first installed Win XP back in Dec. I installed the Intel Application Accelerator hoping to get some really good performance. I can't recall what version it was that I had, but I do remember it being a bunch of crap. It did actually speed up my pc, but it also made it crash all of the time. I was getting STOP errors and such all the time. One thing though, I had a Voodoo4 installed when I had IAA installed. That may have created problems because I was trying to find the right drivers that allowed me to use OpenGL, Glide, and Direct3D for my Voodoo card. So I uninstalled IAA and haven't used it since. Also, I have gotten a GeForce 3 since then and am now considering trying out the latest version of IAA.

Does it seem to be any more stable than it was since Dec.? How about the performance? Does it really speed things up? What about any issues w/ SMART hard drives? I have read that IAA does not have SMART drivers in it.

Here are my current specs: MSI 815EP w/ P3 866 and 512 MB RAM. 60 GB HD w/ Win XP, 7200 RPM, DMA 100, and NTFS. 13 GB HD, 7200 RPM, DMA 66 and FAT32. Soundblaster Live! w/ latest driverpack from creative. GeForce 3 Ti200 and 23.12 drivers. Norton Utilities 2002 w/ all updates. EZ CD Creator 5.1 Platinum.

I included those programs because I have read that there were issues w/ some older versions of the above programs. So included what I have to clear things up. Thank you for any info!

Yes, grab it. its worth it. it supports your 815EP chipset..and back in december (i could be wrong on this) i don't think the IAA was XP compatible yet..or it was in beta ...

at any rate..grab v2.2. its good :)

So what about the issues w/ SMART hard drives? Will it effect those features at all? And what about the performance gain? How much can I expect? I'm really considering trying out the program again, but I am still kinda scared because of all the problems I had w/ it before.

oh-oh..... why?

Well generally beta software have undiscovered bugs and more being this a hard drive controller software then if you install it on your system you're risking your files in case of a major bug failure. Well all depends on how important to you it's the data on your hard drive, in my case I will not risk to lose neither a byte.

Do you have Network adapters in your system?

Yes, I do have an NIC in it. Netgear FA311

Here's another thing that I have noticed. Everytime I reboot now, I have to go to the device manager, and hit scan for hardware changes because my burner won't show up on it's own anymore! I have an HP 9700i, and was workin great for about a yr now, and then after installing that IAA, I have to manually scan for it to get it to show up in explorer!

well, my computer still seems to boot slower (I need to defrag and run bootvis yet). But for some reason, I have noticed that my burner will sometimes show up on its own now. Yet sometimes, it doesn't.

I am running v2.2 (Stear clear of betas with core installs like these, in my opinion) on Windows 2000.

I usually dont install core drivers like these, thinking it will make my system less stable. I am happy I did install though.

Put it this way, I moved up 3 to 4 fps on encoding, I think that speaks fdr itself on how well its done for me.

Its funny but I hear people who run 6 to 7 programs while installing stuff. I bet the most problems with programs like these and any other for that matter are all on the count of people screwing it up on install. Cant stress no always shut down NAV, firewall, everything. Done it and have yet to have anything like an SP or drivers kill it.
