hotrod
it's been a while since i built any new systems. can someone tell me the differences between the socket 423 and the 478? is one only for use with RDRAM? which is the more popular? i see the 478's are cheaper so idk. thanx... Skyfrog
Socket 423 was for the original Williamette Pentium 4; do not buy it as it is now outdated. The current Northwood Pentium 4 uses socket 478, and supports the latest memory types and other knick-knacks so this is the type you will want to get. KC
yup the 423 was the first p4's that came out....they used the same pin array as the (was) newest pIII's. If you are gonna get one.....go with a 478 since it's the newest. I beleive the both support rdram my 423 does and asus makes a board for the 478 that only supports the rdram.
