AllYourBetas
I have two IBM deskstar drives set up in RAID... under device manager, for "Disk Drives" it lists IC35L040 AVER07-0SCSI Disk Device... any idea why, and how I can change it? Ive already tried uninstalling the device in Windows and rebooting... also, the policies tab is greyed out in device properties, and BootVis reports that write caching is not enabled... any ideas? AllYourBetas
What Im more concerned with is the fact that Write Caching appears to be disabled (as reported by BootVis)...

The name's are right, when you set up hard drives in RAID, they are given the name SCSI for some reason (i have 2 80gig maxtor on RAID 0 that appear as one drive with SCSI in the title). The fact that write-caching is disabled is to do with RAID as well.
Roger H. Veteran Posted August 1, 2002 Veteran Share Posted August 1, 2002 i got an IBM drive too and it's connected to my HPT 374 controllers so it's treated as a SCSI device and therefore write caching is grayed out but it's being used. SCSI doesn't support write caching so don't get your hopes up. The drives are fine tho and will run at their max even tho it says write caching isn't available. Gromvar
I had the same prob with my Western Digital 40gb hd. I set it up in ata and what helped me is I updated to the beta drivers at http://www.highpoint-tech.com/ the 1.28 beta and they don't have official winxp drivers. I used the win2k drivers and they haven't given me a prob in winxp. So I'm not guarenteeing that they'll work on yours but it's a possibility.
