Mobidem
had a nice running system, just a small quirk, was updating the bios and somthing failed, now i have a nice platter. here is what i have to go into the new system. UPDATE - 1800+ Amd XP chip 60gb 7200 ata 100, 40gb 7200 ata 100 12x10x40 liteon cd-rw GeForce2mx 400 64mb lynksys 10/100 nic sound blaster live 5.1 gamer 256mb pc2100 ram. I am looking hard at the gigabyte, and asus boards. Would like some suggestions, and would like to keep the board under 150.00 (us) I also never built a system from stratch. Never have had too, and work never made me. I am not worried about it, but thought I would mention that. Whatever you guys can suggest taht is awesome.:)
BrendanWOR
I'd look for a Gigabyte GA-7VRXP or an Asus A7V-333... they'll work well with your components and they're below your price range.

+BudMan MVC Posted July 30, 2002 MVC Share Posted July 30, 2002 how about just redoing the bios? If the chip fried, you may be able to easily pop in a new one - if a surface mount, little more work :) Now you may be able to still reflash - the floppy stuff is in a pretty safe place on the bios - you may be able to boot from your flash floppy - and reflash. You most likely will have no video - so have to do blind. But it is possible - I know from exp.
alpoinacan
Hi If you get a Gigabyte GA-7VRXP make sure you get Revision 2, as there are problems with revision 1 and 1.1. Go to VIA Arena forums to read about it, under Gigabyte. http://forums.viaarena.com/categories.cfm?catid=23 Had 2 already, and finally they are replacing the 1.1's here with revision 2's. YahoKa
I can totally say that you should get the Gigabyte GA-7VRXP (or it's cheap brother the Gigabyte GA-7VRX) This is one of the top performing boards of all KT333s, it's full featured, and it is cheap :)

I had a ECS K7S5A and that board blew to begin with (got mobo, case and ps from friend for free) I was going to try pulling the bios chip, but it looks pretty well soldered on. OutlawTorn
How about the MSI K7N415 Pro. I own this motherboard and its great. No problems at all with it. Best of all it has the nforce chipset rather than the buggy VIA chipsets. Here is a link to a review of it MSI K7N415 Pro

+Anarkii Subscriber² Posted July 30, 2002 Subscriber² Share Posted July 30, 2002 ECS K7S5A, i use that board now, never had a problem with it. the gigabyte 7dxr+ i had actually caused random reboots etc, got to the point where the cpu got fried coz of it. but yeah the gigabyte is my choice, just make sure u get the latest revision for your board b4 u start
v0rt3x
Well if you don't plan on overclocking, I'd strongly recommend the MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU, it has RAID and even USB 2.0 at a fair price. I've had no problems building systems with MSI boards in the past. Oh and it's red too :p

Stay away from them. I wouldnt even touch Gigabyte. Go Abit or Asus, they are the top two manufacturers. The MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU is a nice board, has lots of features, but is one of the worst performing KT333 boards around (check Tom's Hardware). I agree with everything, BUT you need to go read a little but about these gigabyte boards. In fact, in the roundup of KT333 boards the doc reccomends the Gigabyte one because of its features, stability and price ... just like all the other reviews. I am buying this gigabyte board soon :)
