CPU Scheduling Algorithms?


Question

Hi all, I've been assigned a project to come up with a simulator for the various CPU scheduling algorithms using Java; namely FCFS, Round-Robin, Priority, and SJF (SPN). The problem is, I'm supposed to come up with a combined algorithm using RR, and I've no idea what that means. For example, I need to come up with algorithms for:

RR + SJF (Preemptive)

RR + SJF (Non-preemptive)

RR + FCFS

RR + Priority

I don't need the codes or anything, but I need information on how to combine two algorithms. I understand each of the algorithms individually, just need help on combining them. Thanks in advance! =)

Well, Round Robin is just a way of letting process threads take turns. You let each thread run for so long. The others are ways of sorting them so you know who goes first. SJF makes the one with the theoretical shortest running time go first, however this has quite a bit of overhead since you need to determine the running time. FCFS is just the first one in the queue gets served, this is the simplest. Priority means you assign an int (lower number has higher priority usually I think, although it doesn't matter as long as you're consistent, you could have it go the other way) and then sort the jobs by that int.

Usually, these kinds of hydrogels use salts like lithium chloride to absorb more vapor but that can lead to salt leaking into the water, which isn’t ideal. To solve this, MIT’s team mixed in glycerol, a compound that helps keep salt locked inside the gel. In testing, the lithium ion concentration in the harvested water stayed below 0.06 ppm (parts per million), which is way below the safe limit. The hydrogel domes also give the material more surface area, letting it collect more vapor. The outer glass panel is coated with a special polymer film that helps cool the glass, making it easier for vapor to condense. “This is just a proof-of-concept design, and there are a lot of things we can optimize,” said lead author Chang Liu, now a professor at the National University of Singapore. “For instance, we could have a multipanel design.
