mercuryx013
Plextor is still the best, IMO If I could buy any CD-RW I would get IDE USB DVD Combo Personally.. I would go with the IDE, only because I have no experience with a USB burner and have not looked into them at all.
Gambito
Best: Plextor 40x-10-48 Best cheap: Lite-On 48x-12-52 with both you control the gap between tracks (in fact with every burner)
mercuryx013
Yes, the software that you burn CDs with controls the gap. Nero defaults to a gap, you have to change it to no gap. CDRWin defaults to no gap.
jpcahn
I have burned literally hundreds of cds with my Lite-on 12x and it still works great. My roommate has had the same experience. The suckers are dirt cheap so it is pretty much of a no brainer to get one. Plextor is cool but when a company tries to sell a brand new drive and the software in the box does NOT work with Windows XP that is straight BS!! Plextor had their turn to shine and I think they are starting to slip lately.

MaxPayne1357
If you want a good cd burner get a lite-on, they are manufactured by diff companies too. I just saw a (32x12x40) lite-on selling under the name "Cendyne" drive at staples for just $25 USD. Sweet deal, way better then anything plextor has been offering. I have the Lite on model (LTR32123s) and it works great with CCD. Havent met a protection that it cant handle. The only thing that i would have to say is bad about this drive is that the cd tray mechanism is of rather poor quality, Im not sure if it is just this particular drive or all Lite-Ons though.. nomis_nehc
heck... most older burners do too. just that you had to set the time of gap yourself in the burning software.
