image on monitor is shaking

Recommended Posts

I just moved to a new apartment, and I am having some troubles with my monitors. For some reason, the image on the monitor is shaking ever so slightly. but enough to be annoying. It almost looks like the refresh rate isn't high enough, but i run it at 75mhz. Also does the same on 85. So I switched to my other monitor, and the same thing.

Also, there is a slight purple hazing (looks the same as when you put unshielded speakers too close) coming in on the bottom right corner. But the thing is, there is no speaker even close to it. Only things nearby are the keyboard and mouse. Everything worked fine before I moved, so I am wondering if the table I am using (has metal legs) is somehow interferring with the monitor picture. Can those table legs become magnitized? Might be a stupid question, but i have no idea.

any help would be appreciated.

Have a fan going (tried turning it off, didn't help), telephone (tried unplugging it, same), and thats it. I just moved in so nothin is really unpacked yet. I asked the landlord about the walls and he said there wouldn't be anything in the immediate area that would do that.

The other outlet is free. Surge protector is plugged into the bottom one. Phone, monitor, computer, and cable modem are in the surge protector.

I got this "image shaking in monitor" problem... but when my bro uses the vaccum cleaner =/ He plugs it somewhere downstairs int he basement, and when he opens it, my monitor goes freaky little wibblage like flubber. in my case, its some electric pos problem with Hz involved

in your case, I can't really see how the legs can be magnetized by ur speakers...

I figured it could be some kind of electrical/magnetic problem.

well I'm not concerned that my speakers would magnetize the table legs, the speakers (which are still packed away) are shielded. I was concerned that the table legs may be magnetized by the move. Being jostled around, hitting other metal, etc

YOU SHOULD READ THIS BEFORE YOUR MONITOR DIES A HORRIBLE DEATH. I DESTROYED 2 MONITORS BEFORE I FINALLY FIGURED THIS OUT!!!!

The Magnetic fields in my room interfered ever so slightly with my monitor. Never really bothered me, the worst part was that the screen changed with different colors. Well it got worse and worse to the point that the monitor is simply unbearable. I replaced my graphics card to no avail, then had to replace the monitor (i figured it was a faulty monitor.) Same thing happened to second monitor :(

What i suggest is that you SELL YOUR CRT(s) and get an LCD monitor. The magnetic fields won't affect the cable signal for DVI and there is no yoke to affect on an LCD monitor.

I still dont know what caused the fields but i know they are there and i can't get rid of them :(

I know LCD's are awful but what can you do?

I am not stupid ... that doesnt work. I think its permanent damage to the yoke.

The degauss button does fix things for a bit..few minutes. the thing is, the guy who had a computer in here last year didn't have this problem. And his monitor was roughly where mine is now. It was a pretty crappy monitor, but it didn't shake like this

Even odder, the bottom right and top left are the only corners that suffer from this. the top right and bottom left are just fine. the middle doesn't seem to suffer from any shaking either

Big sources of electrical current cause magnetic fields...my room is right above my circuit breaker box and I suffer from the same problem under heavy load :-(

BTW If you degauss while your monitor is affected by a magnetic field it will stay that way...discovered this in school :-)...If you wait a while and degauss again it will go away (as long as there's no magnetic field)

Long story short you're screwed...get an LCD and never play games again or suffer from monitor seizures :-(

Get the monitor away from the wall to test... or change the location a couple of meters... maybe your neighbor has some appliance causing electromagnetic interference in the other side... I saw that... ;)

there are no neighbors...its a house. Like I said, I asked the landlord if there was anything nearby that could cause this (in the walls and under), and he said no. I've moved the monitor around a bit, and haven't really seen any difference.

Sorry, you said "new apartment"... :p

Put away any electronic devices from around... move the CPU case, change the metal table... test everything around the monitor....

Have you a ceiling fan, or an air conditioner close to the PC...??? something with an electric motor...???
