Dudlington
Here's the deal: I've got a 17" Viewsonic PF775. The PF is for professional, so it has a flat screen, which I really don't need. A store near me is selling used 21" Cornerstone Color 21/85 for 250CDN or 150CDN if I do a trade. 150 for a 21" sounds pretty good even if it is quite old. Anyone had any experience with these monitors? Should I do it?
Joseph Zollo
This should be in the traders forum...but I just have one question, how old is it?
Dudlington
I think the traders section is for people who want to trade stuff with other neowin members. I was just describing how I could buy it. It looks old, stylewise and it is discontinued, but it does have OSD controls . Not too sure exactly when they were released. I think they were used heavily for workstations in a professional environment.
lx qu33n
ok... my friend has some old 22" monitors made by NEC.... old as in the refresh rate @ 1280x1024 or even 1024x768 is nada... something like the best he could get was 85hz @ 1024 and 60 hz @ 1280... i wouldnt do it. i prefer quality over size. you dont want to go blind do you? or have a flicker in your retina because you now have a 60hz refresh rate in your eye?? =P
Dudlington
As you can see from the links, the refresh rate is 85Hz at 1600x1200, while the viewsonic only does 77Hz at that resolution, so there's no problem there. Things I'm worried about are accurate colors, brightness/contrast etc... and also glare, as newer monitors have anti-glare coatings.
YahoKa
If it were me i'd stay with the viewsonic. > 17" is not small > Flat screens are SOOOOOO much nicer than curved ones (i still remember the first time i saw one at a computer shop ... jaw dropping) > "cornerstone" sounds like a pretty crappy brand > chances are the colors suck, and $0.01 components are used > For the exception of hard drives, monitors are the last items you should get used > Unlikely the monitor complies with any standards (for visual quality and environmental soundness) ps. where in canada are you? Dudlington
Well, I don't really mind the curve too much, and it doesn't look too bad on the Cornerstone. I'm thinkin for watching movies/TV Eps and playing FPS games, I won't notice a quality difference, and 21" would be nice for watching stuff. P.S. I'm in Peterborough Ontario right now (145km from Toronto), but I'm originally a downtown Toronto guy. U?
